MegaMax was a website suggested by a search engine to find the computer component I was searching for. At MegaMax, I found that item, a cpu/processor for a very low price and ordered it late afternoon Monday 11/22/04. Later Monday evening, I received an eMail from MegaMax thanking me for ordering and that my credit card would be billed under Media Pacer Inc.

The MegaMax order section did not clearly explain how much time it would take (e.g. 3 to 5 business days) to process my order. On the following Monday 11/29/04, I checked the "status" of my order at MegaMax. I found the order was in a "Pending" status. I began tracking the status daily through that week.

On Wednesday 12/01/04, I called the telephone numbers listed at MegaMax website but no answers. Not even an automated system to allow voicemail. I sent eMails to any eMail address listed on MegaMax inquiring about my order. No replies. I even faxed my inquiry and still no reply.

On Friday 12/03/04, I finally did the smart thing (which I will always do now) and found the Better Business Bureau website. MegaMax has a history of poor business proceedings according to the consumer reports on file. So I decided to cancel my order with MegaMax and sent them my cancellation notice.

My advice to everyone shopping online... check out the online company's history BEFORE making that purchase. Do these 4 steps in any sequence you choose..

1. Call any telephone numbers listed to confirm they actually do answer those numbers. If no answer after say 10 or more rings, be very suspicious.

2. Send an eMail to the company's Sales or Customer Service. If no reply in 24 to 72 hours, be very suspicious.

3. Check here to find any information. If none, maybe its okay.

4. Check the Better Business Bureau. They may have information.

As for me, the more I use online shopping, the more I find shopping the old fashion way truly is more convenient and trust worthy. Eye to Eye.. Toe to Toe.. Real time and community oriented.
