You'd think that $70 would be enough to want to keep you. I had a similar situation but I only asked for (a compromise) half the difference or 5%. Up to this time I had been spending about 10-20,000 per year at menards (I'm a contractor, however I only do a fraction of my business there because of the poor customer service). In this case a manager had told me I would get 10% off at the register for using my contractors card. She was wrong, but I had already told my customer they were getting ten percent off. Well I felt pretty foolish and I told them I'd press the case (it's my job to go to be the customers advocate)and because Menards would not budge, I gave my customers 5 % off and told them it came from Menards (they wouldn't have accepted it otherwise). Pretty shameful that they could not even compromise with a long standing customer/contractor. They have lost much more than that $400. Once I ordered windows and after a month I went in to see what was happening with them and they said they had no record of me ordering windows. I had to show them proof (which I had) and then they had to re-order them. When I asked for a reduced price the manager offered me $50 in store credit on a 4000 purchase (ha, ha, ha-It cost me more than 50 dollars just to go back and get this straightened out) This is only the tip of the ice-berg, the 400 was what broke the camels back (and I wasn't even that pissed about that one thing, just dissappointed that they wouldn't back up their contractors). I have gone in on occassion and bought maybe 20 dollars worth of stuff, but no way am I making major purchases.

The company works through an outside company to approve credit. If you didnt get anything in the mail stating why you were denied credit then the customer service rep screwed up in your submittal. The store manager has no control of who is or isnt approved and as far as he knows you were denied. He is obligated by company policy not to honor the discount. If you were to bring your proof that a request was never submitted they would most likely try to make up for this mix up. Since the store manager was told you were denied the only way he could resolve your issue was to have you call the # they gave you. Since you refused and made your claim you gave him no choice but to get you out of the store and the best way to do that was to say "Thank You" His hands were tied and you chose not to call the number.
