Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

In order to protect family's checking account card info we decided to buy one of these reloadcard that are plentiful at every store check out lanes. In our case it was 3341 Speedway gas station in Cleveland.

I was stupid enough to prepay $100. Lesson # 1 Do not trust anybody even or maybe especially the guys who has nicely designed plastic cards with VISA logo on them. Try starting with $10 - wont hurt that bad. They also charged me $4 for plastic itself. Lost $104 total.

So gas station guy told me to call and activate the card which says  with huge bold letters: fast, clear, easy - no credit check.

Why the h*** should there be credit check anyway? I deposit my cash to make it usable online - netspend. They wanted all my  info - address, social?, date of birth - every bit. The whole idea behind me purchasing this incognito card was not to spill my info to some p**** in India who was spelling my wife name like A for "arson" N for "neglect" G for "grave".

Makes me go through this twice and then says i will have to fax him copy of my social and drivers licence - are these guys for real? In 2015 I dont believe fax machines actually exist anywhere but museums.

So I said dont worry - forget it I will try my luck elsewhere - close thw d*** account. I go back to gas station dude and he refuses to refund my cash - too late, money is consumed by Metabank.

I call again we go through a ton of humiliating spelling bee like steps with my personal info and I am rejected again. It is like I am being approved for a 30 year morgage not just a fella trying to get his hundred to buy a pair of socks online.

Unbelievable. So I beg them literally for refund and they promise a check - in 20 business days.Plus they will deduct 5.96 for some service of theirs.

Never got the check.

Did an online  review of them (you do it BEFORE you pay someone $100, idiot) here is what people say about this whitecollar criminals:

This is just a glimpse of their magnificent spectactular perfect criminal record.Should not that be enough for you to stop and never make mistake  I made DO NOT DEAL WITH these disgusting money grabbing scumbags.

And how much more people will be scammed till authorities in Texas or federal will pay close attention to their practices

They are still a bank..

You seem to have some misconceptions about these "Prepaid" cards.

They are nothing more than a Debit Card.  That is why you see "DEBIT" in nice bold print right above the Visa/MC logo on the front of the card.  The only difference is that unlike a "Brick and Mortar" bank, they have NO physical location and instead lf being assisted with these cards by a teller or bank employee...you are sold this card by some retail clerk who often time barely has a high school education and is working for minimum wage.

But even with this they are still a bank, and as such are REQUIRED to obtain identity information per FEDERAL regulation, so no this is NOT a credit check.

Let us then take this one step further.  By your own words you were depositing your own cash so why should they need this information.  Well by that logic since you are putting in your own money, you should not need to provide this information to a regular bank with a physcial location..right?   So if you truly believe this then go into any "Brick and Mortar" bank and ask to open an account with no ID.  Let us know how that goes.

As for your list of "complaints"...you do realize that it is generally only the "complainers" that write.  After all if you had no problems would you be posting a postive review...yea thought so.  I do admire time time it must have taken to read each of the 384 complaints in detail not only to get a summary of issues but to add up the "claimed" losses.  So do you take this same initiative with everything you do?

You say you already have an account with another bank/Credit Union and this was to keep that information "protected".  So have you done as extensive of a check on the number of complaints your bank has down to the level of adding up the "claimed" losses?  If not you may want to do that, especially if you are with one of the bigger banks in the US.  It may even make you think that your bank is a scam and have you looking elsewhere.

Before you say it..no I do not now or have I ever worked for NetSpend.  In fact I would never get one of these types of cards because if I truly wanted to "protect" my main checking account, I would just open up a second account used for very limited purposes...oh which by the way I already do.
