PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY or any company that subcontracts to them, such as Charter Van Lines, Inc.

Charged for 3 add'l flights of stairs at delivery site.  Only 1 add'l flight was owed.  (47 steps - per contract 12 steps = 1 flight, so 4 flights total.)  One flight included in move and I paid for 2 add'l flights which leaves 1 flight owed.  Each add'l flight is $60.  Yannick (sp?) told my daughter in Chicago that she owed $180 for extra flights.  Ashley, with Midwest Movers (MM), after learning there was only 1 extra flight then said it was for a "long carry".  Yannick said it was for flights, and the fee corresponds to the flight fee ($60 x 3 flights = $180).  There was no long carry and amount charged does not correlate with a long carry fee.

Charter Van Lines, Inc., the broker, said that a shuttle fee was required in Chicago because the furniture would have to be transferred from a large truck to a small truck in Chicago per the city's ordinance.  The fee was for the extra labor.  Their verification person said that if the shuttle for transfer was not necessary, the fee would be reimbursed.  When talking to Ashley with MM, I explained that I was told the fee was for the transfer of the furniture in Chicago from a large truck to a small truck in Chicago.  She said that was correct.  I explained that the furniture was delivered in the same truck that picked it up.  She then said that the truck that picked up my furniture was a shuttle and I owed for it.  What?!  At no time was I told that the shuttle fee had anything to do with what was used to pick up my furniture in St. Louis.

Ashley changed her responses according to new information, just made things up as she went along to explain overcharges.  Of course, they don't give a rip what the broker told me, and the broker doesn't care about the problems I have with the carrier.  It's a corrupt situation that should not be allowed.

DO NOT DEAL WITH MIDWEST MOVERS or CHARTER VAN LINES, INC.  They lack integrity and are sleazy.  You WILL pay more than the estimate and will have  no recourse because neither Midwest nor Charter will take any responsibility.  Unscrupulous!
