In Apr 2014, the franchise owner of the franchise Mr. Sandless & Dr. Deck and Fence Davenport IA came to refinish our floors totaling 870 square feet of hardwood floors.

The workmanship was inferior to say the least. The coat was very unevenly applied, there were strings and other particles embedded in the finish, and clumps of finish throughout the entire area.  After the franchise owner came back to discuss problems, he acknowledged the quality and said he could easily fix the flaws by giving the floor a light brush and reapply a coat of top coat.

After he had completed this second attempt to make the floors right, the workmanship was even more disastrous.  Not only was the finish still uneven, it had even more flaws and clumps of finish.  The flaws included hair, fibers and other small particles now embedded in the finish.  There were bubbles in the finish and cloudy areas where the finish was not applied smoothly.

In addition, we noticed that the white woodwork in all areas that had hardwood floor now had about 1 inch of the hardwood floor finish on them as well.  The base wood of all the kitchen cabinets also had about an inch of hardwood floor finish on them as well.  Not only was the floor a disaster but now we had wood trim and kitchen cabinets that had been destroyed and needed to be repaired.

We contact the franchise owner and told him about how unprofessional and unacceptable the floor looked.  He came back to our home and acknowledged the areas of poor quality we pointed out and acknowledged the finish he had gotten on the white trim work and kitchen cabinets.  We further asked the franchise owner why he didn't tape off the woodwork and other areas so they didn't get finish all over them.  The franchise owner's response was that he never had taped anything off.

At one point, the franchise owner said he would have a professional painter come give us estimates to fix the damage but after that phone call, we never heard from franchise owner again.

Mr. Sandless & Dr. Deck and Fence Davenport IA has never come back to our home to fix the damage he caused.  We contacted the franchise owner again to get his insurance information so we could file a claim for the damage he caused to our home.  He refused to provide his insurance information to us, even stating he is not obligated by law to do so.

From the beginning, we told the franchise owner we would pay him after approving the completed job.  After seeing the extremely poor quality of work and damage done to our home, we did not pay Mr. Sandless & Dr. Deck and Fence Davenport IA.  We are grateful that we don't have to go to court to recover those costs but we may end up in court to recover costs to repair the damage the franchise owner caused.

We also contacted the Mr. Sandless corporate office and were advised that they could not help us and we needed to resolve the issue with the franchise owner.  I even left a voice message for the Mr. Sandless CEO, Mr. Dan Praz, but never received a return phone call.

We have since paid a professional hardwood floor refinisher to completely strip our hardwood floors and professionally refinish them.  Now, thanks to a true hardwood floor refinisher, our floors looks great.

Do not use Mr. Sandless & Dr. Deck and Fence Davenport IA because he did poor quality work, damaged our home and refused to rectify the situation.

Do not use any Mr. Sandless franchise as the corporate office does not back the corporate guarantee of satisfaction.

Sorry to hear about the Mr. Sandless not fixing/ paying your damage claims. One does not have to ask for their insurance/ bond on damages. All are or should be registered with the State Contractors Board in your area. I believe once you  contact the Contractors Board, you will see action from Mr. Sandless. Time is of the essence though. Here in Oregon one has a year to file on all Contractors.

Just a not about hiring a business like Mr. Sandless. I have been involved in the Hardwood Industry since 1976, and seen a lot of products, businesses come and go. Many are looking for the quick fix, and cheap but there is no such remedy. Go get yourself bids on repairs to present to those of interest in you delima, but remember in the future not to go cheap, look around and ask questions before allowing strangers into your house to do who knows what?
