I also got ripped by this MWI privacy plus scam I apears that they recieved my credit information thru my card co. First USA VISA were I had a AOL Visa card. After reading the reports that were posted when I was searching the web for MWI to find out what the hell that was or who? I realised that not only did I get charged for something I did not buy, that the people who were comiting card fraud and I.D. theft were the same people that carried my card. Although MWI is the Theif,How else did they get my info? I didn't buy anything from them and had no reciept to show what they were talking about.

Of course the bank(First USA)did not acknollage any wrong doing and told me that if any bill on my visa came in that they had to honer it and I asked isn't there a way to block MWI and any one accociated with them from any more dealings with me or maby password protect my info or somthing, "I wasn't sure at that point how the info got out." they said no but I had a 90 day peroid to dispute the charge (of course I did) and offering the connection to MWI of course. It's weard that the same senario happened to that outher guy.

]

before I had talked to the bank on the phone I had while searching the record on my visa web sight got frustrated with the way they were not posting any more info about the vender that posted a bill to mewrote a E-Mail to the bank protesting the charge by MWI and threatened to cancel that card.

That was at 2:00 a.m. EST by morning or later that moring the account was closed no Mr. Carey whats wrong or what can we do to correct this problem. So I called them on the phone and after refusing the charge from MWI I asked why they were so fast to close the account the customer support person at First USA, Mike Right, said" We try to be as efficient as possable maby the person that handeled your E-mail missinterpited it,do you want to reinstate the card?"

I said no and that I would think about it and wait to see a positive change on my next and final statment from them. I then went to my .com and .net providers and shut down any online accounts like verisign,ms-wallet,pay- pal, passport. After that I took a trip to my local bank that I have my account with and took out there card and guess what they have said securitys. Admagine that.

If you have trouble out of them ( MWI or First USA) or if you deal with any of them you should shut them down and let them know what they are doing is wrong. It's not the amount of money, but the prinicipal of the matter that counts. But then if you think of how much it can amount to over several thousand people, that's a lot of money!

Privacy plus is another business for memberworks and is marketed on AOL

#2Consumer Suggestion

On AOL there are places were MemberWorks advertises. They are even using the name American Homerowner Assc.. In your case they may have gotten you on an add for a free credit report. As you go through the info in fine print it says they already have your debit or credit card number from AOL. AOL was paid $1,000,000 in Dec. 2002 and will be paid a minimum of $3,000,000 in 2003 for all AOL customers card numbers. Memberworks pay the affliated companies upto 25% of that fee you were charged. You noticed the charge and to MWI that means you were a failure to them. They have over 8,000,000 members according to the Dealpass site but according to their financial statement they have only 6,300,000 members. Just another deceptive practice by a crooked company. They were hoping you would not notice the charge. There at 3,000,000 people who do not know they are a members of a MemberWorks and are charged year after year. The CEO of the company brags that only his company sets up specialized savings for the consumer when they call in. What he really means is that MemberWorks will not send any info on savings to the members because they might find out they are members and cancel. What a guy!!!
