The best way to put this and be fair to NFCU is to do a timeline. 5/2002 - HUGE financial disaster - My pay was cut by 25% 8/2002 - Had to move because of paycut, stopped paying on loan from NFCU, ended up bouncing 2 checks for $150 each when moving. 1/2003 - Finally starting to get back on my feet financially and NFCU closes my checking account and reports it to Equifax. I opened an account with Bank One. A week later BankOne closes my checking account because of the report with Equifax. 2/2003 - Paid off the bounced checks in total after Sheryl Dolman (301-24-1800, ext. 236) told me that NFCU would send me a receipt and report the checks as paid. 3/2003 - Called to see where my receipts were and was told by Sheryl that she had never told me that she would send me any proof of payment. Further, she told me that NFCU would not report the checks as paid to anyone (including Maryland law enforcement) until the overdue loan was brought current. I refused to pay. 4/2003 - Now they're preparing to sue me for the loan money. Granted, I have about 80% of the payoff in hand now, waiting. I'm not paying until they report the checks as paid or give me a receipt for the paid checks. Dennis Baton Rouge, Louisiana
