As you'll see when you search for either National Moving Network or AY Transport, I have a lot of company in my miserable experience. If only I'd thought to search NMN online before paying my deposit - but thank goodness I did search the morning of my supposed move. I'll keep it short - run, don't walk, far, far away from either of these companies.

My experience prior to my move was the same as what others report here - eerily alike. Ask for a supervisor? The receptionist will tell you to quit pestering them. Demand a call back on voice mail? They won't call back. And whatever company they claim is doing the move for you is probably AY Transport - of course since I was moving WI to MN, they called themselves "Midwest Relocators" in my case. Not sure? Do a reverse look-up on "the mover's" phone number - that's how I finally put that piece of the puzzle into place.

The only upside is that due to the pit in my stomach from not getting the final details pulled together, I entered "AY Transport" (after doing the phone number reverse look-up) into my search engine and came across websites like this. I was horrified by what I read, and terrified about how my experiences up until that day matched that of others. Frantic, I made a judgment call and cancelled the move (and only then did Kimberly at NMN call me back - claiming the movers were just an hour away, yeah, right!). Despite a desperate plea with my bank, I have lost my $500 deposit. But I know in my gut that the rest of the move would have been exactly that of others here, and I'd have lost more than the $500. I'd LOVE to figure out a way to still get that money back. But in the meantime, if I can help anyone else discover the truth about these companies, or better yet contribute to the demise of these companies, I will have at least some level of satisfaction.

Please do not use these companies, and please spread the word!

Stacy, how did they call themselves "Midwest Relocators" Did they just say it over the phone, or do you have any paperwork? And what was the phone number they used? Was it 408-944-9360, or something else? I'd love to be able to establish a trail if they're opening another company, or at least try to keep track of their aliases.

these people are complete crooks and I'm not one to make that kind of accusation

I had put the deposit on the debit card for my bank account, which does have the VISA logo. The day of the mess I spoke to someone there in person and later spoke with a specialist for the dept. in great detail over the phone. I then emailed her an extremely detailed recap of my dealings with them - every date, time, name and context of message (since, of course, I could never actually speak with a person!). She was very empathetic and optimistic, saying that we weren't going to fight the charge based on my short notice of cancellation, but on the fact they didn't fulfill their obligations. They gave me a provisional credit, back in December, but called today to say that because I'd signed the contract and authorized the deposit, VISA wouldn't give me the money back. She was very sympathetic, but said my only remaining recourse would basically be via legal action. I would contend that yes, I authorized the charge and yes, I gave less than 7 days notice of cancellation, but it was the day of the move and they had yet to return any phone calls or confirm any details! But we know how this company operates, don't we? I figured getting a refund was a bit of a longshot - it's a very valuable lesson learned, albeit a $500 lesson that I couldn't really afford (even less now after I thought I had the $ back!) :). Any other ideas would be appreciated. At this point I figure if I have to try to be satisfied with simply letting everyone else I can reach know that these people are complete crooks (and I'm not one to make that kind of accusation lightly!) I'll have to find satisfaction in that! Thanks for the feedback, and let me know if you have any other suggestions!

to get deposit back

Stacy, How exactly did you pay your deposit? I saw you said you pleaded with the bank over it. A lot of credit card companies have refunded deposits paid with CCs. What did you ask for at the bank? Did you speak with the supervisor or manager, or just a teller? I bet if they hear your story, you could at least get a meeting with a top official. I'm glad you were able to catch it in time!
