Fast talking guy in 30's about 5'8", in white newer station wagon with 6 boxes of N-70 Nolyn accoustics , 5.1 Home Theater System,. He stops me in strip mall on El Camino Real, nest to Discount Tire. Said he was going to an install job and there was an over order of 2. He showed me paperwork that 5 were ordered. He had 6 units in the car, as he said he just sold one. He asked me how much I could afford and I said I was not interested. He asked what I could pay. He said his manger is the son of the boss and not to return with the extra systems. He said the manager got the money last time, and I said why doesnt he return them. He said he could sell on Craigs list for $1000. I told him that the goods were probably stolen. I walked away and he followed me and said he would sell for $300. I gave him the $300 in cash.  I remember thinking ig it is too good to be true, then it isnt good! I checked the internet and read of the scam. I still havent opened the box as I have no question that I will find what everyone else found, nothing useful. I wonder if someone can get fingerprints off the box? I wonder what town he will hit next?

So based on your report it the interaction went something like this.

Guy: "So how much can you afford"

You: "I'm not interested"

Guy: "You could sell them for $1000 on Craigslist"

You: "They must be stolen"

Guy" "I'll sell them to you for $300"

You: "Okay."

Do you see ANYTHING wrong here?

The fact is that this scam has been going on for decades..yes decades.   There is one reason it continues to survive, people like you who let their greed get the best of them.  After all, you pretty much admited that you had no problem paying $300 for $1000 speakers you think were stolen.  If they were stolen, in just about any court of law that could get you a couple of years in State Prision for receiving stolen goods.  If it was legit why didn't they just go on Craigslist themselves and sell them for $1000?

If you really think that there might be fingerprints why don't you contact the San Diego Sheriff's Department instead of posting on the Internet?  I believe that there is a Sub Station down in Encinitas that would cover Cardiff.  Perhaps the reason you haven't is what was already stated above.

Oh and here is a thought.  The next time someone comes up and offers you possibly stolen goods, how about making a call to 9-1-1 and giving them the license plate number and description.  Yea I know..too simple, right?

Sadly what ever town he hits next, he will probably find another gullible person willing to spend $300 and doesn't think to report it.
