Incase I was not clear in the last rebuttal I sent, rebate was for Maxtor. The companies that sell them should not carry Maxtor since they cannot fulfill thier obligation to the consumer. Best Buy, OfficeMax and Circuit City have cut back on the Maxtor Drives due to this issue. Again, contact the store and I bet they will remedy this situation.

In my opinion, Office Depot deliberately acts in unfair and deceptive ways to make more money. They use rebates that they have no intention of paying, so that they can advertise any phony price that they want. File complaints with your Attorney General, their Attorney General, the FTC and anyone else you can think of. Someone should file a class action lawsuit against them, to make the pay back all of the money they have made illegally. The FTC should file a lawsuit against them for violations of the FTC act. And to enjoin them from continuing to do so. And, customers should never shop there again.

I agree with the employee regarding providing the correct solution for your problem and I give her kudos for defending her associates. The pressing question I have for you is, the rebate being the deceiding factor for buying the external drive. As I understand it. Since most consumers that let rebates make thier decisions on purchases typically have had dealings and/or issues in the past with them since this would not be the first time they let a rebate be the crux of a purchase. Please note that ALL companies, not just Maxtor, limit the amount to 1 per household, per purchase, per person. You would obivously have sent rebates in the past and should know that in order to receive both rebates you would have to have purchased them seperatly and had them sent to two different addresses. to add to the employee's (sorry I forgot your name)rebuttal, thier associates are trained to not only solve your problems but, to offer solutions it will not happen again. Sounds like Office Depot did exactly what they should have done. R.J.

It actually says on the rebate forms (ALL Office Depot rebate forms) that only one rebate per household is valid. Also, as an employee of this company, most of the people who I've worked with don't sell things with the intention of screwing you over on rebates. When someone comes in because they just lost all of their data and doesn't want it to happen again, we look for ways to keep it from happening again, which the employee you were working with clearly did based off their recommendations. Our first thought isn't how the rebates are going to work together, it's how we can help you. Read the information on the rebates BEFORE submitting them next time, as you should be doing anyway. The employee was actually trying to help you out so please don't try to make the manufacturer's rebates and lack of reading their fault. We don't make this stuff in the back, we just advertise and sell it as the manufacturer gives it to us.

1.it was the Office Depot's computers that issued two rebates on the same receipt when the buyer is eligible for only one. If I had two receipts I would have received both rebates. 2.it was Office Depot employee who talked me into purchasing a second product from the same manufacturer. they baited me with the rebate for which I was not eligible since I already was purchasing one of Maxtor's products. 3.it was Office Depot's rebate processing center that failed to notify me that the second rebate was declined within the 21 days. I had that long to return the product for a refund. As a matter of fact they had never notified me. I called them to find out why my rebate was showing on their web site as been processed for so long. I will continue buying Maxtor products. I will not be buying anything else from the Office Depot. I can't afford their deals.

It was a MAUFACTURER'S rebate, not an Office Max rebate. Therefore, you should have contacted the manufacturer regarding any specific questions you had at the time, especially since this rebate was the "deciding factor" as you put it. Office Max is just the go-between for the manufacturer, who is ultimately the one who decides if your rebate claim is accepted or rejected. While most people do not put a price tag on the irrecoverable data this item is protecting, if it is such a big issue to you, simply return the drive for a full refund and buy one elsewhere at a cost more satisfactory to your liking.
