Opticom ZPDI ripoff scam charges for a phone call from Brainer, MN to our home phone Internet
We received our Verizon phone bill on 1/15/05, and noticed a "Billing on behalf of Opticom" section itemizing a 3 minute collect call "supposedly received" at our Huntington Beach phone number on 12/12/04 at 2:52 am from Brainerd MN 218-825-9960. Neither my mother, my father, or I answered such a call, or accepted a collect call.
When I called the Billing Questions phone number for Opticom (800-276-1111) and ZPDI Billing Questions (888-505-0734) I was advised of their M-F office hours. I then called the "Called from" number 218-825-9960 and got a modem tone.
My mom called Opticom today, 1/17/05, inquired about the charge, and was told that their equipment is very sophisticated, and there was no way that the call did not take place. They refused to remove the charge
I did some searching on the web, using search terms "Opticom fraud" and "Opticom scam" and managed to get here, so it is evident we aren't alone.
I also searched on other websites (using reverse phone number lookups) and there are no residential or business numbers listed for 218-825-99XX. Thought that was weird.
We are going to try calling Verizon and see if they can/will reverse the charges.
If someone gets any answer when they try calling the Brainerd phone number, let me know!
