..but none of us can pick and choose the sex of the cops that come to arrest us.
And they must follow certain procedures for arrests such as hand cuffing and searching. If they do not hand cuff a suspect and someone got hurt or killed because a suspect had a weapon or grabbed the polices weapon etc..then the arresting officers are accountable. They were just doing their job.
The police do not know who you are. Sure it is a minor offense..but it did lead to an arrest and any arrest has standard procedures.
I agree this was overly harsh all for a 76.00 loose dog fine, but when people don't pay fines, arrest warrants are often issued. Personally I feel this was a huge waste of the polices time and taxpayer dollars to arrest you for this. Must not be a very high crime area if they have the time for this. But since you were notified by mail you did have a chance to avoid this situation.
Surely somewhere on the notice sent to you it must have stated you are subject to arrest/warrant if you do not pay the fine after a certain length of time?

Sure, you know you were no danger to the police and wouldn't run or do anything desperate. However, the police do not know that and they've learned by experience that they deal with people who are being arrested in a certain way to make sure they are in control.
The poster who suggested using this as a learning experience for your son has a good point. Giving priority to legal obligations is a very good idea for obvious reasons.

THE REASON FOR THIS REPORT WAS FRUSTRATION AND SHOCK AT BEING HANDCUFFED AND TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL.I WOULD OF WALKED TO THE CAR WITH THE POLICE. IVE NEVER BEEN IN TROUBLE BEFORE,WASNT A FLIGHT RISK. MY 17 YEAR OLD SON HAS A JOB.HES BEEN WORKING SINCE HE WAS 14.HE HAS A CAR,HE PLAYS SPORTS,HAS GOOD GRADES AND IS STARTING HIS SENIOR YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL.I TOUGHT HIM TO BE A GOOD BOY. MY POINT WAS IM A SINGLE PARENT WITH LIMITTED FUNDS,ALOT ON MY PLATE,I OVERLOOKED A FINE FOR MY DOG GETTING LOOSE. AND WAS TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL. AGAIN I THINK THERE COULD OF BEEN A BETTER WAY OF THE POLICE HANDLING THIS.AND THE POLICE CAME TO AREEST A FEMALE.WHY DIDNT THEY HAVE A FEMALE OFFICER THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE TO SEARCH ME? I HAD TO SIT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD HANDCUFFEF ON THE BACK OF A POLICE CAR UNTIL SHE ARRIVED. HUMILIATING!!!!

Use this as an example to your Son what will happen if you choose not to follow the law. As minor as you think this offence is, laws are put in place for a purpose, and we must all follow them in order to have a more civilized world.

Does it "suck" that you got arrested for this when there are probably tons of other unserved warrants..of course. But it comes down to responsibility for your actions(and in your case lack of action by letting your dog get out).
I RECIEVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL TO PAY A $76.00 FINE.IN THE MEAN TIME I OVERLOOKED IT.(MY MOTHER HAD BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE HOSPITAL THIS -MONTH.) I KNOW ITS MY RESPONSIBILTY TO PAY FINES I UNDERSTAND-
- And I am sure if you read that "notice" that there would be some language on there that if you don't pay it you may be subject to arrest.
BUT I WAS IN SHOCK THE POLICE WERE AT MY FRONT DOOR TO ARREST ME FOR A NON CRIMINAL CRIME.
- What exactly is a Non-Criminal Crime? You don't get a notice in the mail to pay a "fine" if you were obeying the law. You were not being arrested for the violation, had you paid the fine when you were supposed to there would be no warrant. You were being arrested because you DID NOT fullfill the requirements of the court order.
.THE POLICE TOLD ME I WAS NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY.
- They are right..and by your own admission you did receive this notice. You just let it "slip" your mind. I am sure that the courts have never heard that excuse before, but unlike the other people who lie you are the one person who is actually telling the truth.
AND I STILL SEE THE LOOK OF CONCERN HIS INNOCENT FACE THIS WAS SO UPSETING FOR HIM
-I am sorry for your situation but really your son is 17 years old, that is one year from legally being an ADULT. You are writing this trying to have him come of as a toddler who can barly walk on his own. Also, not to really get into your personal life, but I hope you are not totally "supporting" your 17 year old son. He is more than capable of getting a job and starting to pay for some of his support.
