I would be very careful before taking you dog to Pampered Paws Canine Hotel & Dayspa aka Pampered Pugs in Carthage, NY. It is easy to be deceived. At first The Stringers, Tanya & Justin seemed to be a truly ethical pug breeders and people. They claimed only have a few litters a year and a waiting list of perspective owners. They would boast about how wonderful their breeding program was in comparison to others & how they only bred for the love of pugs.
We became friends after a short time believing we shared the same interest "Pugs". As time went on Tanya often spoke to my wife about her breeding practices, reciting what a responsible breeder should be & do. After a
short period of time Tanya came to us to say she'd like to use our pug Tank to breed with her Champion line female. My wife considered her a mentor beacuse she was supposed to be teaching her about breeding pugs. We agreed believing she was the RESPONSIBLE breeder we THOUGHT SHE WAS. Tank was not used for breeding but was intact because of the fear of putting him under anesthesia.
Tanya had often spoke of the fact all her dogs had tested negatively for brucellosis, a bacteria that's passed through fluids & very resistant to antibiotics. She made a big deal out of how important it was to do testing and most breeders don't. Tank tested negatively for brucellosis we didn't ask to see written documentation about the females results because this was a trusted friend. She claimed they were done at Cornell and on file & verifiable.
When her female whelped her litter most were born dead and the others died within a day. Tanya told us the 6 & 7 oz puppies were just too large for her 18lb girl & was Tanks fault because he was MUCH TO BIG @ 20 lbs. My wife suggested she take her girl in to the vet to see if something was wrong. Tanya said no need and diagnosed the cause herself. At that moment my wife almost died realizing Tanya was not all she claimed to be. In our mind a licensed, responsible BREEDER would never let her little girl lay there without knowing what went wrong. Over time we also noticed how she would claim to use a veterinary breeding "specialist" at Cornell, three hours away, to do her testing, pregnancy care ETC but never actually went in the time we knew her,over 2 years.
Our dog Tank was diagnosed with Brucellosis at Cornell University on July 28, 2006, about 2 months after his death. His eye was removed and prosthetic put in because of Secondary Glaucoma on May 25, 2006 @ Cornell. They were running tests to determine the cause and found Brucellosis in the dissected eye. This is what caused the Glaucoma. They wanted to know the names of any dogs that he bred with. We couldn't believe what we were hearing and informed them that Tank was bred to one of Tanya's dogs. My wife explained to the vet that Tanya was one of their clients & her Pugs were all tested for this bacteria @ Cornell. The vet looked up Tanya's chart and found out that Tanya has NEVER BEEN TO CORNELL UNIVERSITY.
It was like being hit with a ton of bricks when we found out Tanya had lied to about going to a Reproductive Specialist at the University as well as many other things concerning her breeding ethics & standards. Because Tank was infected with Brucellosis by Tanya's dog he developed Glaucoma & had to have his eye removed. The prosthetic eye is why he we took him in to his previous vet in GA where he was taken to the back to be given medicine and somehow died while back there. (that's another report)If he had never caught Brucellosis he would have never got Glaucoma and therefore would have never had to see the vet in GA that killed him.
Every dog & person that goes into that house to board there, groom, day care to buy puppies are all at risk of being infected with the brucellosis bacteria. The Stringers will not acknowledge or respond my attempts to see the negative results she claimed to have dated before the mating. She claims my wife is harassing her and the local police officer will not help because what she is doing isn't illegal but my wife's email asking for results is. Her husband is also in law enforcement so maybe they are friends. Her business is so "shady" that her whole neighborhood has taken drastic measures to have her closed down. She can have over 25 or more dogs running loose in her house. Dominance issues are allowed to play out between the dogs. Big and little are not separated but most are hidden in basement when people are expected. Intact large breeds are kept with small females not spayed and left to establish alpha.
She has also attempted to discredit my wife by actually going on national pug forums and saying she killed our own dog by beating him to death. This is absurd because we have his necropsy results and it is also very cruel. Wasn't killing our precious baby boy Tank enough?? Life without him is unbearable and we want to warn others so they don't have to suffer the lose we did. We am planning to seek legal action as well.
