Petco ripoff waste of time. Why are these animals dying? Bend Oregon
Being an animal caretaker, I am very concerned about how animals are treated.
Two months ago, I purchased a rat. She was a newborn, just got her off the truck. Two days later, she died. I called Petco and they said that the whole bunch had died from a respitory disorder. A cold.
I went back and they gave me a new rat, free of charge. A week later, I noticed that this rat was struggling to breathe. A few hours later, she too, died in my hands.
Why are these animals dying? I have heard nothing but stories about how other pet stores handle their animals, and I'm worried that petco is doing the same.
Please be careful when buying a pet. So that you don't have to go through the horror of holding your pet when she dies.

I purchased my rat Neitchze from Petco, she is doing great so far, however, I agree with you to a cetain degree. Large corporate chains, like Petco operate on a different level then the smaller stores. Usually the employees I deal with at petco are younger and less knowledgable, the a family run shop. Although, I have been in some Petco location and were all the employees were very helpful and knowledgable and all the animal, like my rat, are in excellent shape. So far I have purchased a fish, a rat and a guinea pig from the same Petco, and all of them are as happy as can be, with no health issues whatsoever. Rats are really suseptable to illnesses of the lungs. All it takes is one customer to walk in the store with a cold, and there you have it. I have seen a little girl sneeze in her hands, then ask an employee to hold one on the rats they had their. I said somthing of course. I think there are alot of areas where improvment can be made regarding petco, and even smaller stores have more then their fare share of problems. As far as calling Petco a rip off, right now I think maybe a little harsh.
