Yes i do believe that poetry.com is a bloody scam. I remember a few months back i entered a poem, which i thought was pretty good because i do write and love poetry. This happened around March 2005. About a month later, when i had almost forgtten about it, i get an email from Howard Ely, telling me that i'm an a semi finalist and my poem has made it to the finals and will be entered into the "Eternal Portraits". Now those who have encoured Poetry.com, will know that when you submit a poem with them, they would send you a letter via post and ask you to make any typograhical corrections, plus submit a biography and send it off. The first poem i did, had some errors and i made the corrections and sent it off. This ws in April. Then late last month, i get another letter saying my poem was so good that they wanted it in a CD. When i got the letter, i noticed the errors were NOT corrected. Then i decided to look them up on Ripoff, to see the legitimacy.... Busted!!! They have so many reports on them it's not even funny!

What i noticed about them is that they'll send you all the crap in the mail, placing emphasis for you to buy their books (even when they say no purchase necessary to enter, which is a ploy, just to entice unsuspecting people), but still throw it in your face to try and buy it, by introducing special prices, so on and so forth. I never sent any money to them, Thank God. What a bloody bunch of nonsense. Shame on you Howard Ely, for playing around with peole's emotions and talent, just for your personal gain. You need to be stopped. And it's not to say the people who submit their poems aren't talented and it's a darn shame when people try to use poetry.com as a tool to get some form of artist recognition and all they're doing is building on false hope. I think poetry.com's days really should be numbered because it's only a matter of time when the public will see them for what they truly are, lying, cunniving, and scum and they will be boycotted and NO ONE will EVER have anything to do with them... now let's see their artist talent now!!

Yes, poetry.com does advertise cash prizes. But lets be real. Have you won any of that money? Have you spoken to a real person saying they have won that money? NO, right? No one said if you order the book they won't send it. That doesn't mean anything. They will send you what they advertise as long as you are willing to cough up the money. It doesn't mean what you are getting is worth the money. I can go down the sports store and buy a dang trophy and have my poem engraved on it. I can go buy a cd and record poems on it. So..does that mean I should be running my own poetry website scam?

Rebuttal on correction of errors on poem proofs by Poetry.com

I am not making a report. I wish to make a rebuttal to reports which stated Poetry.com did not change corrections they made to their poem draft. This really bewilders me! Are we talking about the same company? I've sent in poems and then I have completely rewritten the poem. When they send me the proof, I've made so many changes, I usually attach a copy of the rewritten poem for their convenience. I've marveled at their patience as they extensively made corrections to my poem. I am not in any way connected to Poetry.com except as a well-satisfied customer. Thank you for giving me this chance to express my view.

But doesn't poetry.com offer $1000 cash prizes? No one mentioned that. I just submitted a poem so I guess I'll see what happens. Also: the website says that all poems will be published online. Anyway, just my thoughts.

Well good for you Kathy if they didn't jip you. The bottom line is that Poetry.com is a scam and their main emphasis is to crush people's hopes and dreams and solicit their publications. They don't give a d**n about your talent, all the wanna do is make a quick buck and i probably think you know it yourself. I sent the correction more than twice and STILL haven't been corrected, but have the nerve to solicit me, even though they say no purchase necessary......What a bunch of crap. They'll take you seriously when you pay!! Stay away from these guys, they're talent and money kleptomaniacs.

Not true for me

I have been sending poems to poetry.com for maybe 3-4 years and when the sent me the corrections letter in the mail I corrected it and my things were still not corrected. BUT! The 2nd time it came I corrected it again and then went online to correct it just in case. Then, my mom oredered 3 books (1 for us 2 for family) and thenshe also ordered some audio CD's...like 6 I think. The only complaint I have is that the CD is one long track and all the poems run one after the other. My poem was published in it just like they said. So maybe you needed to give them the benefit. I only bought 3 books, maybe 6 audio CD's, and a plaque with my poem and it was 2-3 years ago w/ one of my first poems and I got them in a timely manner. Now I just don't care much about buying the publishings. So poetry.com has been good to me.
