I'm currently a college student desperately seeking a job, so I was suprised when I received an email from a PRIMERICA recruiter offering me a job and requesting that I call him to set up an interview. I set one up, only to arrive at a hotel with many other people. it wasn't an interview, it was more of a company overview of what they do.
The presentation lasted about 2 hours but the entire time i couldn't help but feel that they were trying too hard to convince us that they were legit. They emphasized many times that they are an umbrella branch of citigroup, so I wasn't sure what to believe since citigroup is very legit.
Those attending the presentation as possible recruits appeared to be without a college degree, and probably working minimum wage jobs at their local mall at the age of 45.
I came online to check on this company and whether or not they really are associated with citigroup, and if so, why are they so desperate to recruit people without a college education? First, wouldn't those with degrees be begging citigroup for a job?
Also, the person who "invited" me named, Bill Hebner, obviously saw my resume and would then realize that I have very little work experience since I am still in the process of getting my degree. However, he gave me this little booklet about someone whose been smacked around in the corporate world, never advancing though he works hard, etc etc your typical disgruntled corporate worker. As I read the booklet I wondered if he realized that I had never even set foot into the corporate world yet?
The final guru to speak was a supposed multi-millionaire who had retired 5 years ago as a result of his success in Primerica. He told some heart wrenching story of a poor chinese boy working in a laundromat with no financial security, and as he mentions the word "Chinese," the guru is staring at me as if I would know who he was talking about (since I'm Asian). I found that to be very strange.
After his story trying to convince us to attend the next Saturday morning meeting that would discuss the compensation, I was introduced to him by the person who invited me (Bill). Bill tells the guru that I was thinking about the 'opportunity' and will be in the office to meet 1 on 1 for a question/answer session.
Bill then asks the guru if he will be in the office. Immediate bell in my head. first of all, isn't this guy retired? Then why does he still come into the office 3 days a week? Why is he wearing a cheap suit?
Anyhow, I'm very glad that I followed my instincts on this one and did some extra research on the internet to find this site. It's amazing how everything they do is very scripted.
