Primus Financial Claim Services - Jonathon Morgan Letter claimed that I had won $100,000 Third Grand Prize in Reader's Digest Sweepstake HoustonHouston Texas
I received a letter stating I had been confirmed as the 3rd Grand Prize Winner of the Reader's Digest Sweepstakes which amounted to $100,000. A check for $3070.75 ( from Bank of America) to pay for insurance, handling, duty and taxes fees). Interestingly, when I went on the RD customer service website and read their advice to help prevent sweepstakes fraud, some of the line items included that most reputable companies notify winners by mail and advice that swindlers often ask winners to prepay taxes, s&h charges or other bogus expenses and you shouldn't do it - that prizes are free and you should not be asked to pay to claim your prize.......this actually made me a little hopeful that it might not be a ripoff (because of the check for "fees"........methinks Mr. Jonathan Morgan, Executive Director may have read the FAQ sheet! It gave some credence to the whole matter - although the statement that all prize monies must be claimed no later than February 31st did give me pause.
It just didn't sit right - so I checked it out and, through Ripoff Report, identified it as another disappointing but expected scam.
