Properties Group Inc LuxRetreatsInc Fraudulent Vacation Rentals internet
First off, I did not lose any money as I sniffed out this fraud before I lost money. However, I lost over a week of vacation planning and booking time, not to mention stress induced expectations of the cost of my vacation after realizing these guys were fraudulent. Also lost credibiity by promising a shared vacation with another family that will now cost double the origninal estimate.
This scam involves ripping postings of other legit vacation rentals off of VRBO, or HomeAway or FlipKey or any of the other vacation rental websites. These guys post the listing as their own and when you click to find out the price they email you what looks like a good deal and direct you to their website with the same listing but a price shown now.
I got wise when I went searching for a phone number and could not find anyone to call. Also concerned when the business was located out of country but again with no local phone number in the US. LAstly, when they send you a contract, they ask you to wire money to a bank in the UK.
Their address on their website is fake. A quick Google map satellite image showed that. Also the address on their contract was fake, also proven fake by a google map satelite image. Their testimonials are fake and have been used as testimonials on "I assume" other fake websites. LuxRetreatsInc is one such fake website. There are some fake transport company websites used ith these testimonials as well.
Lastly, I was able to contact the "real" owner of the property and he told me, yes there are fake listings of his property on the web and he was aware of the problem and had made VRBO aware of the problem, but VRBO had done nothing about the problem. He assured me the proeprty was not availale when I wanted to travel and certainly not at the price on the fake website.
