July 1999, My husband & I financed a water purifier system from Castle Credit Corp. on behalf of Rain Soft aka. Discovery Marketing. Prior to the installation we were assured that our water quality would be noticeably cleaner, the water would no longer leave spots on dishes, it would not corrode our plumbing like city water would, soap consumption would decrease, clothes would be cleaner, would increase the value of our house, and that no one would be able to make out that they had to dig up our yard to install the system, which was a major concern of of my husbands.

The system was installed on a Friday, if I recall correctly. We later found out, by an employee whom had only been employed by the company for two weeks. During the installation Rain Soft proceeded to tear up our yard and track mud all through my living room and dining room. Needlessly, we were not happy with the installation results. But, we let it go because we were under the impression this system was going to be beneficial to our house and us.

We had plans to go away that weekend, and left that night after they were finished. We returned home that Sunday evening to a house full of water. We were devastated. We called Rain Soft's after hour's answering service, only to wait 1+ hour for someone to return our call. They offered to send someone out to look at the system the next day & assess the damages. In agreement with Rain Soft, an emergency water extraction company was contacted to clean up the standing water. Rain Soft agreed to cover the cost of the water removal. My husband & I found a local company in the yellow pages, and Rain Soft in return contacted them. They showed about two hours later and proceeded to extract the water off the tile floor in the kitchen, out of the carpet in the dining room, and out of the carpet in the living room. They tried to dry the cabinets in my kitchen, the walls in my kitchen, the wall the dining room, the wall in the restroom directly behind the wall in the kitchen, and the walls in the hall way with high-powered fans & a dehumidifier. The fans and the dehumidifier were run for a couple of days, possibly a week.

That Monday a representative from Rain Soft showed to assess the damages & their equipment. The rep. came to the conclusion that the equipment under my sink was incorrectly installed and that there was no permanent water damage to my walls, cabinets, and my carpet. He had another employee return and supposedly rectify the problem with the system.

About a week after they had been there we noticed that the equipment was still leaking, my cabinets were falling apart from the water damage (the cabinets were made out of particle board), I had mold and mildew growing on the wall under my sink, my house smelled because of the mold & mildew, my walls had water stains, my base boards were separating from the walls in the kitchen, and the lower part of the wall in the restroom was ruined. We called again for someone to fix the system and to make our house right.

They returned to work on the system under my sink again, and look over the part of the system in my back yard to be sure it was working correctly too. They supposedly fixed the unit under my sink, again, and while testing the unit in my back yard they proceeded to kill my plants this time with all the saltwater they ran out of the system. Their solution to our damages was to offer us of their soaps, free salt, and one free maintenance call. That was it for us; we were furious. We decide then, we were not issuing another payment for the water treatment system.

Castle Credit, the finance company then started calling our house. We explained the situation to them, and stated to them that we were not going to make another payment until we were compensated for all damages, and if they wanted their payment they needed to call Rain Soft.

My husband and I called and called Rain Soft's corporate office almost everyday, and had Rain Soft repersentives to our house numerous times, only to get nowhere. Numerous times, we asked kindly, and after a couple of months, not so kindly that they take the system back and refund the finance company. They refused, and basically told us, that we bought the system and we were stuck with it. It proceeded to get worse, they ignored our calls, refused to talk with us, and when the secretary found out it was my husband or myself on the phone, she would reply by telling us there was no one there to help us or she would hang up on us.

We were tired of the run around and wanted something done. Castle Credit was calling everyday. Each day they were ruder and ruder, insisting that we pay them. But we could not justify payment for something we could not use, which caused so much damage, all the troubles from Rain Soft, and now the problems with Castle Credit. We couldn't afford an attorney, so we decided to call our local news station, WFTX Fox 4. We presented our problem to their Trouble Shooters, and they were more than happy to try to help us. We thought with media attention, we might get somewhere.

About a week later WFTX contacted us to let us know that Rain Soft agreed to replace the bottom portion of the cabinets in our kitchen, cover the cost for paint to paint the water stains on our walls, and fix the system under our sink, again. That is not what we wanted to hear. We called Rain Soft again, and spoke to a representative, and agreed to the replacement of the cabinets and the repairs to the system. We tried to explain to the representative that paint was not going to fix the damage to the walls and base boards, and that the cabinets we had were no longer available and we were going to have to pay to replace the rest of the cabinets in the kitchen to match them, and felt this was not fair. They would not budge.

We, reluctantly, allowed them to come in and replace the bottom cabinets, under no agreement that we would not seek further compensation.

After the cabinets were replaced, WFTX Fox 4 Trouble Shooters came to our house for an interview and status on our situation. While they were there I explained all that we had been going and had gone through with Rain Soft. I went in to detail about all the damages incurred from the system, the inexperienced technician that installed the system, and proceeded to show them the damage. They asked to see the system in the house we had been having all the trouble with. So I brought them in the kitchen opened the cabinet where it was, and there was another puddle of water. I could not believe it, nor could they. They taped it, and broadcasted it that week.

The negative media attention did nothing, except schedule another repair. Rain Soft returned again, to repair the system. No one has ever contacted us since, except for a sales representative to offer a regular yearly maintenance, which we are to pay for. They have refused to this day to compensate us for damages.

This system has never performed or properly worked as they claimed it would, and has been nothing but problems since it was installed. We asked that they take it back, and they refused. We asked for compensation, and they refused. We have taken a large hit in our finances and on our credit rating. I hope by writing this that I can deture others from using this company. If anyone ever prosecutes this company, please contact me I will stand behind you all the way!!!
