I received an e-mail telling me that I this particular company liked my resume and wants me to apply for a job opening. I have been offered by various companies in the past for a job opportunity, contacting me via e-mail so I find it a bit odd when this particular company e-mailed me this:

P.S. I'll be in meetings today all day but should you experience difficulties with following the simple instructions given on our website, you can still try to get me out of a meeting at 1 (800) 832-3332. Yet, I really hope that you'd be able to accept our offer easily on your own without any of my help over the phone and will not miss that crucial deadline. I'll thank you for it personally later.
Here are my reasons why I think this is not a legitimate company:
1. You will notice, the job position being offered was not mentioned at all in the letter. A legitimate offer letter would atleast have mentioned the job opening.
2. The letter made it sound that after an extensive consideration that they have finally decided to offer the position to me. Huh? I never even applied for this company let alone go to any of their interviews for them to deem that I am fit for the job.
3. A usual offer letter would not sound this desperate. Note the PS at the bottom. I called the number but it was unavailable. Hmmm.. makes you wonder if it was a just a fluke that their phone is not working at that time I called, or there is no such phone at all!
4. Still doesn't sound like a scam? Wait till you hear this. There is a deadline for the application. I just received the e-mail this morning and the deadline is tonight!! What's the rush?
Ok, at the back of my mind, out of desperation, I still think that this might be a ligitimate offer. So, I checked their website. Here's what I found out.
1. About us page - no mention of the location of the company nor any contact information. This was really odd for me. The page only talked about their service. Upon signing up and after submitting your resume, they in turn will send your application to potential employers. They will provide reports on what company checked out your resume. Sounds good, just like an agency. I looked through the site but I couldn't find the job that they were offering me in the letter. So, I logged in with the provided username and password.
2. Lo and behold to my surprise, they are requiring me to give a "donation" of $29US/$39CAD to be able to access their service. If they are not able to find me a job, they will refund my money 100% and if they did, they will keep the money and consider it as your donation. Ok, 100% refundable sounds good, but it did not say upto when they willl look for a job for me. Example, in three months my money is refundable if they were not able to hook me up with the potential employer. If this is a true offer letter, it should not require me to pay anything. It would be much better if like other agencies, they would only deduct payment from me if I found a job through them. Other than that, they should not require me to pay an upfront fee.
3. They claim that they are a non profit organization..isn't is ironic?
Just so you know, after receiving this e-mail, I immediately checked rip-off report for any complaints about this company. I didn't find any here so that's why I am filling this report now for people to be aware of such company. Good thing, checked out their website and used my commmon sense. Scams like preys on people desperately looking for a chance to earn a living. It's up for you to judge.. good luck and may you not be scammed.
