Complaint Review: Robin Johnson - Friends of Cats - El Cajon California

Okay, now that I have had the chance to think about whether or not I really want to post information that is probably not something this individual would appreciate, I went to my higher power, and pretty much got the "HIGH FIVE" to go ahead and let it all FLOW. Afterall, what is posted here is the absolute truth, and I almost feel that if nothing more, it will be therapeutic not only for me to get this out of my mind, but it will give great pleasure to those who have been walked on by this woman, named ROBIN JOHNSON, who works at FRIENDS OF CATS. I think it would be somewhat less confusing, and very crucial to elaborate on what exactly ROBIN'S JOB is, and the type of JOB we all did as her "KENNEL WORKERS". Robin, is the "HEAD MED-TECH", which means she is NOT A VETERINARIAN, as FRIENDS OF CATS does not have one on staff. However, what it means is, she took a couple of courses at an ROP facility..(ROP-regional occupational program), and passed a veterinarian assistant course, which is the same course given broken down into two semesters. I think it's great she got this training, and furthered herself from being a "KENNEL WORKER", like one of us, and moved on to wanting to be on the medical side of things. However, she fails to remember that she is NOT a veterinarian, and often plays the role as if she is one. She administers medication at times that she should not, and more often, and even worse, she decides not to administer any medication AT ALL, and waits out situations present in cats that have crucial health issues like URI's, or absesses, or even cancer. She wants to impress the accountant for Friends of Cats so badly, that she tries to keep her medical costs down to under a certain amount, and this is why so many CATS have DIED because of her negligence. I have witnessed first hand on many occasions when I submitted forms to her that a certain cat was BREATHING FUNNY, or lethargic acting, or having problems standing up, and told, "I will schedule an appointment, or I will have Noah or Diana take a look", "but there is really nothing I can do about it". Noah and Diana were her assistants at the time, and Diana, is one of the many direct under Robin on the totem pole med-tech assistants who no longer works for FRIENDS OF CATS due to the same ongoing reason...ROBIN JOHNSON. I would like to give a really sad example on how negligent ROBIN was concerning an FIV positive cat in our ANNEX section of the shelter. The ANNEX is a trailer that is divided into two sections and houses both FIV POSITIVE CATS, and FELV positive cats. FIV is FELINE AIDS, and FELV is FELINE LEUKEMIA. Anyway, in the FIV side of the ANNEX was white, female cat with two different colors eyes, one was blue, one was green. The cat was named "GOOBER", and she was a kind of a shy cat that really did not take too well to people. Anyway, GOOBER just wanted to be left alone for the most part, and did not feel too well as a result of the CANCER she had on both ears. When I first started there in January of 2002, the cancer was apparent, but not too bad. By the SPRING of 2004, the cancer had eaten half of her ears away, and this disgusting black gob of cancer cells and sores was so huge on one ear, it almost weighed the half of ear left down, and it was weak and so horrible looking. I wrote NOTE AFTER NOTE almost BEGGING for them to take this cat to the vet. The med-tech assistants understood and were compassionate as to my concerns, as they were concerned as well. However, ROBIN is the only one who could call the shots, and let this poor cat suffer for months upon months before finally having the ears severed down to where this cat would not have to suffer the pain of this anymore. You see, this organization does a wonderful thing by taking in cats with FIV and FELV, which are terminal illnesses. However, ROBIN also feels, and has relayed to BARBARA, and vice-versa, that these cats are a "DRAIN" to the shelter, and spending money on them should be avoided if all necessary. Basically, in a nutshell, they are doomed to DIE anyway, so why bother????...that's the attitude. I think it's important for ANYONE who has ever relinquished an FIV POSITIVE or FELV positive cat to this shelter know that the $500-$1000 dollars they paid to ensure the cat would be cared for was a very FALSE statement they were told upon signing the relinquish forms. Those cats RARELY ever see a vet. They are often found DEAD, and although they had the diseases, some of them died immediately because they got no MEDICAL treatment. If you research FIV and FELV, cats CAN live for years with these diseases, depending on the cat and severity and progession of the illness. However, something like a simple URI can take them out if not treated immediately. It's very similar to if a human has AIDS, and how the immune system is likely to suffer worse than someone who does not have AIDS, and the AIDS victim can die when a simple URI turns into a full blown lung infection. Anyway, I know I am rambling about medical issues, and believe me, I have only began to scratch the surface about how many negligent and heartless things ROBIN JOHNSON does every single day at this shelter. The treatment of the cats is the number one concern of mine, as these cats are so precious and deserve the BEST life they can have in a shelter environment, and they should NOT ever be ignored or have to suffer. ROBIN is just straight up TOO LAZY to get off of her rear end and stop chatting with Barbara Auckland in the office to do anything for these cats. Literally, Robin and Barbara sit in the office and let everyone ELSE work their butts off all around them. Neither of them will lift a FINGER to help one of the kennel workers out if they so need assistance. There is SO MUCH more I need to tell, but this is only the second part of the ongoing post about this woman. In the next update I will continue to reveal how negligent she is with the care of the shelter cats, and her absolutely horrible treatment of the FRIENDS OF CATS KENNEL WORKING STAFF. Until then, I continue to pray everyday that somehow she is removed from her position at FRIENDS OF CATS, and that someone with a heart and compassion is able to do this job, and be a responsible head med-tech in charge of this sweet feline beings. I pray, I pray, I pray....for the cats I pray someone better is going to be there for them someday. I pray for the staff who has to put up with her every single day. I did it for three years, and I don't know how I survived it. My experience at Friends of Cats was something I thought would be the most meaningful job experience in my life, and I had every intention of staying on as an employee there for years to come. Instead, it became the single most HUMILIATING, HORRIFYING, DEMEANING, INSULTING, DEPRESSING, AGGRAVATING, and most of all DIS-RESPECTFUL encounter at a workplace I have ever in my life had to go through. I am on a mission..from here on out, to EXPLOIT FRIENDS OF CATS for WHAT THEY CLAIM TO BE, AND ARE TRULY NOT. THEY ARE NOT CARING AT ALL, and SOMEONE NEEDS TO TAKE OVER and throw that SHELTER MANAGER, who is JUST AS LAZY as ROBIN out of that office and get someone in there who CAN RUN a shelter and not allow her head med-tech to be so negligent and treat her staff like crap. FRIENDS OF CATS.org...hmmm..should FRIENDS OF BARBARA and ROBIN...cuz that is the only way you are treated with respect. The only way to be treated human, is to be someone they actually like, and believe me, there aren't many people who fall into that category. But for those who do, you are the lucky ones, and don't have to suffer like the cats and staff do.
