I just want to warn folks about a product called 'Scratch Pro Repair System' from a company in Canada. It advertises that the product repairs all scratches in plastic screens, your pda, your lcd tv, cds and dvds, ALL clear plastics. And it boasts that it REALLY works.

Well the instructions are not very clear, and it turns out that any coatings on the phone screen (such as anti-glare) will get ruined if they are there (the coatings). I venture to say that EVERY pda screen has a coating of some sort.

I went to their website to see the instructions they had there, as the single page in the package was unclear. They had a video that was posted to teach you how to use the product. Mysteriously, the video was removed by the user (the company).

The product is basically sand paper, of progressive grit, that you are supposed to use to buff the scratches out. Well, I had a tiny little hairline scratch (which doesn't seem all that bad now that I look back) that I wanted out of my $750 HTC cell phone. I got the product, read the instructions, they were unclear, but it did say if the scratch was very minor, start with the second grit and work from there (i.e. don't use the grittiest paper). It was supposed to take a couple minutes.

In a few minutes, my screen was destroyed. The single scratch turned into a huge blob, with dozens more scratches. I contacted the manufacturer, and they said, 'Oh, you must have had a coating, you need to use the grittiest sand paper, and sand off the ENTIRE coating down to bare plastic, then use the other papers, and you will get a cut glass finish in about ten minutes!"

Well, after almost 2 hours of heavy sanding of my phone screen, I had the coating off, and another hour of buffing and sanding, and the screen is absolute garbage. It is completely ruined, barely readable and the touch sensitivity is a little off. There is no cut glass here. Well, the manufacture said sorry, not our fault.. good bye. I even asked for my money for the product back, with no response. I demanded my screen replaced, and even found a replacement screen on ebay for about 75$ and demanded the company get it for me, but they wouldn't and said it isn't there fault'

No I am fully aware that it is buyer beware a lot of the time, and I did this to my own phone. The issue I have is the sale and marketing of this product to repair all plastic screens, especially pda screens, when it can't do that. I even used it on a WII dvd I have that didn't work properly, following the directions exactly. It made it worse. Stay away from this product!
