On 9/9/05, I responded to an Ebay auction in which Select Luxury Cars (aka Ashcar, Inc.) was advertising a 2001 Yukon Denali. I was told the car was in "Excellent" condition (as they specifically advertised in the listing). I asked several times during 4 separate phone calls on 9/9/05 and was assured the car was in "Excellent" condition each time. I was told there were no stains, cuts, imperfections, and defects to the exterior or interior of the auto. Consequently, I applied for financing over the phone and was easily pre-approved for the entire net purchase of the truck. During the last call, the salesperson, Barron Lane, agreed to reimburse me for 1/2 the cab fare associated with the transaction. Figuring I covered all my bases, I flew into Atlanta on 9/10 to purchase the auto. Upon inspection of the truck however, it was obvious that it had problems that were NOT properly disclosed. It had stains, cuts, imperfections, and a dangerous seat defect in the interior. The exterior had several scratches to the front region and the drivers-side wheel well was severely rusted. Once these problems surfaced, they quickly wanted to negotiate lower pricing.

I asked for a respectable deduction to make up for the dangerous seat defect, stains, cuts, and imperfections. They came back with a $100 price decrease, $35 in gas, and the previously agreed upon cab fare. This was an embarrassing unacceptable counter offer so I pulled out of the transaction entirely. To save a floundering deal, they pressed me several times to give them a new purchase price but by this time I was quite suspect of their overall business practices. This dealer has very expensive cars all over the lot and inside the showroom (Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes, etc.) Why they were selling this particular vehicle I'll never understand. It was so far from their usual used inventory line. I believe they tried to describe the Yukon with the same scrutiny as a $100,000 used Porsche. However, they failed miserably and misrepresented the truck massively.

As a result, I spent over $320 traveling to Atlanta to conduct a purchase that was based on their specific verbal and written disclosures concerning the car that were obvious misrepresentations of the accurate state of the auto. I realize that a used car may have some incidental issues that can be overlooked or negotiated away. It was difficult, however, to nonchalantly ignore a major seat defect (third-row seat would not latch), a small rip in the ceiling fabric, numerous stains throughout the cab, adapter cover panels that fell to the ground because they were entirely broken off from their defective hinges, visible scratches on the front bumper and a rusted wheel. I doubt anyone could have overlooked such visible imperfections and defects. Though they have a disclaimer on their Ebay listings suggesting that used cars (in general) have problems, it still doesn't cover the major issues that I observed on this particular vehicle.

Upon realizing that the transaction fell through, the salesperson disappeared. Accordingly, I was not reimbursed for any taxi expenses as agreed but was immediately excused from the building to await a taxi outside. I've filed a BBB complaint but have gotten no satisfaction concerning agreed upon travel expenses. Overall, they made a serious error in representing their product. As a potential buyer of any of their vehicles, one should be extremely cognizant of the way they conduct a transaction (especially with out-of-towners) and how they describe the vehicle in proper detail. Beware; all may not seem to be accurate on their Ebay listings, advertisements, and/or commercials. Think twice before using Select Luxury Cars (Ashcar, Inc.) and it's salesperson, Barron Lane.

I received a check in the mail today (9/19/05) to cover my requested travel reimbursement for the trip I made to purchase the vehicle in question. This matter should be considered closed and satisfied. I have asked for the original report above to be removed from this forum altogether.
