I would like everyone to know that Goodwill's auction site www.shopgoodwill.com charges anywhere from $10.00 upto 5% HANDLING FEE, that does not include the shipping costs on items. I find this very sad for an business model that accepts all of its products for free, utilizes countless hours of unpaid labor due to volunteering, and is very minimal in labeling their items. Lastly, they do not state on many auctions, that they do not accept paypal nor do they accept cash at the store even for local pickup. I am currently bidding on a Television in which I am required to pick it up a location in California. I will be charged $10 for handling. What did they handle? Moving it from inside the store to the door? Also consider that if you buy something very small, say, for $1, than you automatically must pay the $10 handling fee on every item. What a rip off.

Each Goodwill selling on Shopgoodwill is autonomous of any other regional Goodwill-- There are standard practices required on Shopgoodwill that are easily found by reading the FAQs and Get Help Pages.
Each auction will tell you the specialized policies related to each region that sells on Shopgoodwill--
The handling fee actually varies from $2.00- 5%. If you paid $10, you were paying 5% of the total cost.
The reason there is a handling fee has nothing to do with shipping. Its related to the fees the stores are required to pay the Shopgoodwill website to post auctions-- Shopgoodwill works like Ebay, they charge fees to the individual stores selling on the site. If you have ever sold on Ebay, you are probably aware their fees can vary depending on whether you post multiple photos, use reserves, have a high selling price etc. Why does Shopgoodwill charge fees? Its called the cost of running the business-- Computer server fees, website registering fees, the cost of paying the employees who handle customer service, technical support, etc--
Once you take the time to READ fine print in any contract, you will see life is so much easier to understand and your expectations will never be let down

First I would like to state that I am a PAID employee of GW. Daily, I post a quota of items, as well as have purchased from other stores- using the same-proxy bidding- forum as you do. I have never come across a $10 Handling charge. I must say it is sad to see such a giving company run down!

I have read on here about how high our prices are (again this is a proxy bidding forum- prices go up, as people WITH FREE-WILL continue to bid), how high out shipping charges are (mandated by the shipping prices set by the carrier) as well as how we receive our items for free. You're right! our items come to us as free donations- BUT I am not a volunteer- I get a bi-weekly paycheck.. just like you. I am proud to say that I work for a company that employs people who have disabilities, and would otherwise not be employable-as well as have workforce development programs, and even beyond the employees, there are lights, rent, heat/ac, internet et.c- to make it available for you to bid on items.

If someone decides that the price is to expensive for them, stop bidding. If you feel that we are doing something we should not be doing... contact GW of orange county- I would like to believe that someone associated with this company would not do anything fraudulent, but I was not born yesterday... All branches are not like that- and if you see one that practices such business... make it a practice to not bid on their items.
