Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Recently Ive been recovering from a very traumatic event, and trying to get back on my feet. I just moved back to Colorado- and I had landed on job, but it was doing door to door fund rasing for an environmental group. I used to be on a traveling magazine crew so I was pretty much over door to door anything. I have a lot of office experience so when I saw an ad on Craigslist for Customer Service reps, immediate hire- $2280 a month, I was THRILLED! I called the number, got asked a few questions and got an interview the next week.

When I got to the interview, I tried to ask the secretary about what the company did, and so on- and she wouldn't tell me anything. When I got to the actual interview, a VERY good looking man interviewed me, and I got hired to do sales, on SET APPOINTMENTS, and make money. I assumed that due to my prior sales experience, I was over qualified to do customer service.

I showed up for training the next day and for the next three days, we were taught how to set up and show the machine, and all the shady sales techniques. On the last day we were told that we had to take it home over the weekend and demo it to our friends and family. Before and After each demo we had to call our trainer and tell him, so he could pressure them into buying the machine. If we did six demos, they would give us 60$ on Monday. Also if we had been taking notes the whole time we could turn them in and get 50$ on Monday. I dont have a car and had to spend an hour getting there and back on a bus, so I couldnt take the machine home. I was supposed to be spending the weekend in the mountains with my family, but I was told I could come back Saturday morning and get the machine.

Well due to car trouble, I never did make it back down. Monday I went in anyway to try and explain myself, but they didn't care. All the carefree nonsense they had been spilling to us evaporated. I was treated like dirt, because of something I had no control over. They then told me that I would be trained on how to be a "canvasser". I was told that when the 'crew' was in between appointments, I would help "knock them In". The one person in our class had made about 10 demos, but the people he had sold them to had horrible credit, so he didnt make any money. Neither did the rest of us.

After a ridiculous sales meeting, 9 of us, about 10 of the machines AND the shampooing equipment got shoved into a mini van built for 8, no seat belts, and reckless driving...FOR TEN HOURS. I quickly learned from my big mouthed canvassing teacher that just about everything in that company was a lie. Everything from what they told the customers to what they had told my training class. NONE of the appointments are set, and the crew relys on getting knocked in, ALL DAY.

After a HORRIBLE day, the other three members (of an orginaly 12 person training class) and I were dropped off back at the office and decided that we werent coming back because it was SUCH a scam.

I cant believe I fell for something like this, dont let the desperation of money lead you into something like this because all your going to get is really frustrated and even more broke.

AFter seeing how this company let me come in for an interview when i called i got a little suspicious. When i got to the build I just thought it was a regular recruting office. After filling out the app and waiting awhile i wanted to leave but i didnt know any of the information about the company and wanted to see what it was all about.

After the interview and being told i would be called back later that evening. I waited for the call to see if it was true. I started to do some research found out this has happened multiple time to lots of people.

Thank you for stopping me from going to training. Wasting my time and a lot of other peoples time. End this rip off now. Why lie to people saying that it is set apointments but its door to door. And saying no pay for training WRONG! What can we do to stop this?

Don Dorval works for this company and with Mike.  He brags about how much money he makes.  He is so broke he cannot even pay attention.

He is a real big talker about how much money he makes.  He is the one driving the NEON.

He preys on older women, and steals money from them, and preys on underage women.  There is another report of him scamming two women out of $37,000.00.  He actually stole money from a lady, and her son passed away, and he took her funeral money and ran.

I would think that the KIRBY company would not want to be associated with these men at all.  They don't care about people's safety.

I use to work with Don Dorval.  He can be very abusive.  He even stole a car from a elderly lady.  After she paid him cash, he pretended to have to get something out of the car.  He then took off in the car.  She was on social security income.  These people don't care.  He then told her that is she said anything about it, he would call her husband and tell him that she had slept with him.  This guy is quite a piece of work.

If you see him, he look like SHREK, or like Chicken Little without glasses.

I Don't Understand

So...

Let me see if I understand. You took a job, and then decided to go to the mountains instead of working. Because of car troubles, you weren't able to meet your commitment to the employer. Have I got that right?

And, just why should the employer continue to employ someone who can't keep their word, who doesn't show up for work, and doesn't meet their commitments? You had car trouble ... life sucks. Happens to all of us ... you couldn't make other arrangements? A friend? A taxi?

Sounds to me like you weren't very interested in keeping the job, a fact the employer obviously picked up on. Why would the employer be obligated to go to special lengths to take care of you?

The truth about my time working with shoreline

#5UPDATE EX-employee responds

Fri, July 31, 2009

I recently started working for shoreline systems. I was desperate for a job and looked on craigslist where i found the ad in the customer service section. I called the attached number an they told me I could come in that day for an interview. I went in and interviewed with a very young man. Right away he seemed very eager to hire me. He told me the manager had to look over my resume but chances are i had the job. That night I got a call saying I had the job an i needed to start the next day. I was told i would be making $2280 a month on salary. So of course i was excited and i accepted the job offer. That next Wednesday I went in for our first day of training. I saw many young individuals like my self and we all made friends and started discussing the job. It turned out no one really understood exactly what it was that we would ne doing. We all were hired for the customer service position. So after waiting a half and hour longer then we should have traning class began. It was then we were all informed we would be taking the Kirby into customers home, assembiling the Kirby and demonstraiting how it worked. At this point I was pretty caught off guard it was not at all what i expected a customer service position to be. So I asked our trainer if we would be going door to door knocking and asking people if we could demo for them, because if that was the case i refused to do the job. My trainer assured me that every appointment we did was pre-scheduled and that everyone we were showing had an interest in the Kirby an had either been refered to us or had called u about seeing the Kirby and what it does. We were told we were scheduled 3 appointments a day, 15 appointments a week 60 a month. Another member of my team asked our trainer what if we don't get our scheduled appointments and he said we didn't have to worry about that as long as we showed up we would have our appointments. So great the next day we learned how to assemble and disassemble the Kirby. We were also told we didn't have to sell ANYTHING. That our job was strictly to demo the product. So that friday we signed all the paper work we learned then that we wouldnt be getting paid at all for the last three days of training that it was all considered voluntary. I over looked that but something told me this was fishy. Then we were told to take the Kirby home an demo it to our friends and family. He told us if we did 6 demos we would recieve 60 dollars 8 demos $80 and 10 demos $100. Also if we sold a Kirby we would make money off of that deal. Our trainer told us we would not have to sell any Kirbys just strictly demo the product. Then as soon as i was doing my first demo i called my trainer an he pressured my friend into purchasing the Kirby he did that to EVERY DEMO i did over the weekend. Then we were told that we would have to return to work that Monday for a meeting the meeting was only supposed to be two hours long. Alot of people were upset about that Sundays and Mondays were supposed to be our days off. I showed up for the meeting by 9:50 the meeting started at 10:00 we didn't get out of the "meeting" until 4:30 that afternoon turned out we had been signed up for extended training. That next tuesday was our first day on the field. The manditory meeting was ridiculus. A complete waste of time. People sang and danced and discussed the sales they made that prior week. Also during this meeting was when all the new employees were informed that August is concidered their "push" month. Every employee was supposed to work ALL 31 days in the month of August. Then we were all divided up into our teams for the day. I was assigned to a all girl team there was 8 of us. All 8 of us girls were new, except for a canvassar who said she had been doing this type of work for over 5 months. Also our team leader who had been there since April. The entire time we had been in training we were told to dress nice, and professional. That day NONE of the other employees were professionally dressed my team leader for the day was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. So we all get our supplys and wait to be assigned a van. We opened the front door to the mini van the back doors do not open unless they are opened from the inside so we open them and get inside. There is disgusting moldy hamburgers all over the van nasty dirty stinky clothes gross pillows. Just completely disgusting. The seat belts are tied up together so we had no way of buckling up. The windsheild was almost completely shattered only a small section you could see threw. As far as i am aware their isn't any insurance on the van and our team leader was driving with no licesenes. We are driving around until our team leader randomly picks a neighborhood. Then she tells us we had to get out and go knocking door to door to find our appointments. I told her we had been told that we had appointments scheduled for us. She said she didn't know what we were talking about that they never assign us appointments but that we needed to take it up with our manager. So ALL the girls are out of the van knocking door to door for appointments it was over two hours before any of us get an appointment. We had been out in the field since 11:30 and i sat in that van until 8:30 that night and still had not got even 1 appointment! I told the team leader i wanted to leave. My team leader said I could leave if I chose to but he would not take me back to my vehicle that if I wanted to leave i had to find my own ride. It is almost impossible to get your 3 appointments a day when your randomly knocking door to door asking people to give you an hour and a half of there time! My friend later told me they didn't get back to the office until 10:30 that night! It was the worst "job" ive ever heard of!

I just got hired on at this company, and I wish I would have thought to check on this company before going in for an interveiw. Thanks to this post, I wont be attending any of the training courses or working for them. Thank you for saving me from wasting my time. I noticed that the building seemed a bit sketchy when I went into it. It's not necissarily the location, but sitting in the waiting room, it seemed very sketchy, as you would think a well established company would be able to furnish the place, and that the receptionist would at least have a computer! There wasn't much there, and there weren't any papers or anything for him to be doing. And in the interveiwers office, there wasn't much by way of that stuff either. And the second I got close to the top of the stairs, they slammed the "big boss'" door shut and all that was seen or heard of her was her voice.

I was an employee of Shoreline Systems a couple of years ago, I went through the craigslist also and spoke with a female on what the job consisted of and also got a that will be told to you at the interview. My friend and i went to the interview together and were both excepted. She did not come to the classes, I stayed for the classes and went out to demo also. I remember being told about if you do not do a specific amount of demo's that you do not get paid, I knew that going out to the demos and trying to get knocked in. I never went out thinking that if i did one demo i would be getting the big paycheck!!!! I was willing to try!!!! The problem with most of the people working for shoreline is that they get the people who want to get rich quick without doing much!! I worked for them for a couple of weeks until i knew as s single mother I couldn't make it unless i sold a lot of Kirbys not everyone can afford the Kirby and because of a few bad apples that are not on the up and up when they go and do demos that Shoreline Systems gets a bad rap!!! Well to make a long story short I didn't sell one Kirby and knew that I wasn't getting paid. I don't know who you interviewed with but my interviewer was good looking too and honest!!!!!!!

The office is in a shabby building, the 'boss' claims to be worth millions, but trust me ive seen million dollar officies and that isnt one of them. Throughout training, the trainer told us about how much money he makes, and all the nice things he has, but he drives a Neon~?! The only person in that office making money is the big boss whos name is Michael Licota. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS.
