Our business purchased the Yellow Pages ad for 2001, and a special coupon mailer that was guaranteed to be mailed to 15,000 customers in our area.

We, our relatives, nor any neighbors or customers we know of have ever received any coupon mailings nor the phone books.

We called SNET to ask why these coupons were never mailed. They told us that they only sent them to households that made over $30,000.00 per year, which we qualified for. I asked how they knew which households had that income, and they said from individual census bureau information (Not possible, HIGHLY illegal to obtain personal information - I worked for Census.)

Well, we sent a certified letter disputing the bill, because we were supposed to be charged by the quarter, and were charge all at once, with late fees, collection fees, etc. They violated the fair trade act, which states that when a bill is in dispute, the company that billed you must allow 60 days from receipt of your letter for investigation, and cannot send statements, bills, nasty collection letters, or charge additional interest or late charges. Well, they continued to charge us, and have now not returned our calls.

This act also states that they must make a decision on the investigation within 90 days, which they did not. This is now at the State's Attorneys' office under review with a similar on-going lawsuit from other businesses. We still get the annoying statements, with nasty demands to pay or else.

HORRIBLE customer service!!! They promised to send us a copy of the coupon layout, then denied saying they would ever send it. Once I questioned the census info, they also denied ever saying that, even though two of us were told the same thing from 3 different CSR's.

Be wary of doing advertising business with them, and DO NOT buy Cingular cell phones, they are horrible. The whole company stinks.

SNET went downhill ...

SNET went downhill once SBC took over. If they never were bought out, the little phone company would have stayed a reputable, decent business. SNET is now part of the big corporate hell known as SBC.
