This company was misleading from the first telephone consultation with the sales agent. The agent sold two products and lead us to believe that the services for the main phone were unlimited local and long distance within the state for 29.99.

He said the second line would be unlimited local with charged per minute long distance for 24.99. At which time we requested a Block be put on that line since it was a teen line.

The rep then told us that there would be a charges for switching the service totaling 107.00. (Which their website states:

* Unlimited local, regional and domestic distance calling plans.

* Low domestic long distance and international rates.

* 24/7 customer care.

* No contracts and no switching fees.

* Reliable, high quality connections.

That is stated on their website spectrotel.com/prod/prod_res_localld.aspx

Then they charged us more fees on top of that for switching. Their customer service department is rude. They furthermore are unwilling to resolve any issue you have. We attempted to contact them several times over the last month to resolve the bills.

The first bill we received was 200.00. They charged us for every long distance call even within the state on the primary line. They never placed the block on the secondary line.

We immediately called Spectrotel. They assured us that they would go through and credit the account for all the charges. And place the block on the secondary line so we wouldn't have the same issue the following month.

They did not rectify the bill. Two billing cycles later there is a credit on the bill for 115.72. Not anywhere near what they said the credit would be.

The phones were supposed to be 54.98 a month plus tax.

Not one bill has come out to that yet. They also never disclosed that their "unlimited local and long distance package" really meant 700 minutes a month then after that you would be charged usage. How is that unlimited??

They also never disclosed that we were not allowed to use a computer on either line. Even though we are dialing a LOCAL access number.

They charged us for using a computer while dialing a local number!!! When questioned they stated, it is a voice line not a data line, you cannot use a computer on either line.

Again, this was never stated, brought up, or even questioned when we ordered their service from the very beginning.

In the midst of trying to do everything to get the bill rectified, the send a suspension notice. If 238.15 is not paid by July 3, 2007 the account will be suspended. They suspended the phone on June 26, 07.

When contacted again, a promise to rectify the account and return a call the same day. Again, they did not.

I contacted them on June 27, they put a credit on the bill of 135.00, out of 617.34. That is for 3 months! Phones that were supposed to cost 54.98 plus tax.

When asked to speak to a supervisor they just keep routing you to the black hole.I would not suggest to anyone by any means to switch to this company. The service is heinous.

The customer service is poor. They are rude. They promise to call back and never do. When contacted you get routed everywhere. The bills are never rectified.

I went to the bbb.com site and it stated that there are several complaints. Around 40. It stated that they are not members of the BBB and when contacted they have no responses.

Now if the bill is not paid it will be reported to the credit bureau. How that is fair, I do not know.

Our company offers different versions of voice calling plans that permit unlimited voice phone calls either on a local, regional or long distance basis. These products are designed to accommodate the vast majority of our customers' needs but they do have a limit on excessive internet or data usage. We expressly state in our marketing materials, welcome kits and rate sheets that Spectrotel's residential calling plans are intended primarily for voice use and are not intended for excessive data or Internet usage. Customers can check email or use the Internet occasionally at no extra charge for up to 7,000 local and regional minutes per month. However, internet and data usage beyond that level will incur additional charges under this type of rate plan.
