WARNING - Don't buy Statue of Liberty tickets from StatueOfLibertyTickets.com - they are a Ripoff and a scam. They charge a $7 fee for simply forwarding your order to StatueCruises.com, the official website for the Statue of Liberty. You can place your order for Statue of Liberty ferry tickets there yourself and save this $7 rip-off fee. Statueoflibertytickets.com charges $24 for the ticket that you can get for $17 at StatueCruises.com.

I consider myself a pretty savvy consumer and was completely taken in by the StatueOfLibertyTickets.com website which I must say is pretty elaborate with its misleading information. It takes advantage of the fact that the StatueCruises.com website provides very little information about waiting times and other information about the Statue and Ellis Island.

When I compared what I would be getting for the difference between $24 and $17 for a ticket I was led to believe by the Statueoflibertytickets.com website that I would be getting a reserve ticket that would let me avoid long lines and that I would be getting the benefit of an included extra audio tour. This is a scam. There are no reserve tickets that get you in before anyone else and the average wait to get to the security check-in point is more than an hour, frequently two hours. And what appeared to be a benefit not included in the StatueCruises.com ticket was the audio tour which in actual fact is a totally free audio guide provided to everyone by the National Parks Service.

You would think that Statueoflibertytickets.com would have the good sense to provide a refund to a disgruntled customer who claimed that he was scammed by their misrepresentations on their website. They adamantly refused referring me to their terms and conditions which I must admit I did not bother to read (who does when simply purchasing ferry tickets). Buried in small print 230 words down in a small scroll box was information that there was a $7 per ticket service charge and that there would be two credit card charges on your credit card account. What they do is simply forward your order to StatueCruises.com which charges your credit card, just as if you ordered from them directly and then charge your account separately for their service charge.

When confronted with a $30 dispute fee rather than make a small refund, Statueoflibertyticket.com opted to have me make the credit card dispute. Very poor business of them.

So be WARNED. Do not purchase your STATUE OF LIBERTY or ELLIS ISLAND ferry or admission tickets from anyone except the official website which is StatueCruises.com.

AVOID Statueoflibertytickets.com/

“They are falsely representing themselves as the official website when they are not and are charging $7”

Specifically, where on their website do they claim to be the “official website” to purchase Statue of Liberty tickets?

Posted in four locations on the web page where you selected your ticket:

Price includes a per-ticket service fee.

Posted on the web page [directly below the checkout button] where you entered the total number of tickets being purchased:

Total price includes a per-ticket service fee.

Posted on the summary page prior to paying for your tickets:

Total above includes service fee of $xx.xx.

Posted directly below the payment information you entered, you checked the box next to:

I have read and agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Those Terms and Conditions include:

IMPORTANT ORDERING INFORMATION

We provide a booking service for purchasing Statue of Liberty Tickets. The price includes a service fee of $7 per ticket.

“I was led to believe by the Statueoflibertytickets.com website that I would be getting a reserve ticket that would let me avoid long lines”

In the Reserve Ticket section of their website they state:

The Reserve Ticket provides ferry access to the grounds of the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, plus the Ellis Island Immigration Museum on Ellis Island. Does not include Pedestal (inside monument) access.

“Buried in small print 230 words down in a small scroll box was information that there was a $7 per ticket service charge”

The service fee notice is in the same size text as virtually the entire web site.

You failed to read the terms that you agreed to; therefore, there was no scam and no rip-off.
