I bought my bulldog on April 11,2005 from whom I thought was the breeder (Ray Trockmanton, he did not show the dog, his girlfriend did on his behalf) to only find out that Steve Kruse is her actually breeder. I did not go to a pet store and purchase a dog because my other dog that I have was bought from HIP and has had hip displasia in both hips and had to have surgery to correct the problem. (To be fair I did not pay for that surgery my vet billed it to HIP)

I brought my new bully who I already loved to my vet a few days after I purchased her to get her checked out. This is where the bad news began.....

I was told as a puppy she already had luxating patella's in both knees and would have to have surgery at some point. About two weeks later my sister bought a puppy from Ray (who we still thought was the actual breeder) and we had the two together and they wound up with kennel cough and had to be seperated from all the other dogs (we each have two dogs) and were on medication for a few weeks to correct the problem.

Fast forward about a month later...I brought my bully back to the vet because she would not stop having awful direha and ate everything she came in contact with.

Tried tons of meds and different foods and all sorts of things and nothing would stop it. In Nov (7 months after I bought her) she ended up tearing about a dog pillow and eating the stuffing out of it. She had to have surgery and nearly died. (Not to say the breeder is at fault for this) She was not expected to live and I was devistated. Thank God she did. I love her so much!!!

I got to thinking about all the problems that I was having and I called Ray to see what he had to say and ask him about her knees. I was told all bulldogs have luxating patellas and not to worry, well I still worried, and was told that she actually came from his friend Steve in IA.

A few months later I brought her back to my vet and was told she needed surgery on her knee now otherwise it was going to get worse. I called Ray and he told me a vet that he uses so I went there (it was a lot cheaper from places I was getting quotes from). Ray did offer to pay for half of the surgery, which he did. Two surgeries later and the problem is still not corrected. I have talked to Ray many times and was told to put her down, he would give me another dog, what do you want me to do...who is at fault for this?

I am bringing her to another vet that hopefully will be able to fix both of her knees in the near future. (approx cost $4000)

I just wanted to put my story out there. I am just finding out who I am actually dealing with. I was one that went to a breeder and still got screwed so be careful who you trust. This needs to stop. I know dogs are not humans but they have rights as well, we as there owners and care givers need to do all we can to take care of them and if someone screws them over we need to FIGHT FOR THEM!!!!!

I saw a posting for a lawsuit pending agaisnt Steve. Please contact me, I would love to help.

I was wondering if anyone associated with this story would be willing to talk to me about the outcome? I realize this was a while ago.

Amy, I believe you may have Ray's last name incorrect. It is Duckmanton not Trockmanton and you are not alone. There are numerous cases of the same scenario occuring to unsuspecting people and presently I am aware of a group collaborating to make it known. If you used the vet in Lockport, please speak with him and have them give me your contact info so that I can tell you how you could help. That vet will know who I am if you tell them the first name, breed, and that you have info to share on the situation. Thanks!!

Just wanted to give a quick update. after my posting my bully did have her opposite knee worked on and is doing much better. She might have to have her left knee worked on a third time but we are waiting to see. I did however want to point out that when her left knee was worked on for the first time the breeders did pay for half of her surgery when I contacted them. The surgeon did not charge me for the second procedure. Not all breeders would do that. Some would just ignore you. I do realize that certain types of dogs have heridatary problems, I urge everyone to be aware of them before purchasing any animal.
