Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
In December 2006, my family went on our first trip to Cancun. All we really wanted to do was to spend some relaxing time at the beach and to visit the ruins at Chichen Itza.

As soon as we made our way through customs and baggage claim at the airport, we were bombarded by people who, we mistakenly thought, were kind enough to help us navigate through the terminal. Each of them sought to get our attention by offering to give us "free excursions."

One man asked us if we planned on seeing Chichen Itza. We excitedly told him that we wanted to. He took the opportunity to pull us aside to his kiosk and help us to get the excursion for free. All we had to do was agree to sit through a 90 minute presentation for a timeshare resort. Simple as that. He added that the "real Cancun" could not be experienced at the other resorts because they are foreign-owned. Tourists should support local Mexican businesses, he added.

We agreed to sit through the presentation that lasted over five hours. My husband and I repeatedly told the salesman that we were in no position to make such a purchase. Once we thought the man was going to let us go, he called a superior over and miraculously a unit became available at a significantly cheaper rate. We still told them that we could not afford such a purchase, but they assured us that the resort would purchase the timeshare back if we could not use it. After all, we could actually MAKE money if we rented out unit. No risk! Just purchase this one now, can't let it slip away!

We asked again if they would purchase it back, and they assured us that they would. We agreed to purchase the "discounted" unit, but before the contract came, they served us champagne. Sure, it was not wise to sign papers while consuming alcohol, but there was no risk, right?

After several unsuccessful attempts to schedule a trip, paying the monthly amount, and being current on maintenance, we (partly as a result of the economy) have decided that we can no longer afford to keep paying the monthly fees. We asked them if they would take the unit back. We have never used it. We have been paying this entire time, so it's not like they are out anything. They have told us that they are not buying units back at this time. They are quite rude.

We would just like to GIVE it back to be rid of it and they won't let us return it. We definitely feel lied to because they promised to buy it back if we could not use it. We simply can no longer afford it and I hate to see something like this ruin our finances.
