I wish had read these other ripoffreports going back over 3 years and other websites documenting the crimnality of Sylvia Lindig before I rented a property from her. To be blunt, she is running a short term rental scam and defrauding travelers who are booking property from her. Obviously, it is impossible to know what you are getting from this woman beforehand and she lays on all the soft soap till she gets a commitment and your money.  She charged my creit card twice, then told me she was refunding the duplicate charge and never did and then demanded cash on arrival to compensate for the "accidental" mistake with the claim that she was cancelling out both charges.

She will enter your rental when you are not there and rumage through your things and will do various other insane thing while you are there to disrupt your privacy (Im not a licensed mental health specialist but there is no doubt in my mind she needs to be institutionalized). On top of the nightmare, her property is extremely run down, hot and humid and overal buried in the jungle. She will also hit you with a cash invoice for additional charges when you leave like utility surcharges and fees because you check in or check was not exactly at the right time. She will hold your stuff hostage until you pay her. Do yourself a favor and avoid this woman like the plague. Hopefully the county or tourist bureau will shut down this woman before too many more people get burned like we did. The experience totally ruined our vacation.

I am a concerned person who would like to address a couple of comments in the report. First of all, Ms. Lindig is legally blind and she is disabled due to multiple strokes. She was in the hospital for part of December. Her transactions are not handled by her. They are handled by booking sites. In addition, Ms. Lindig cannot negotiate the two flights of stairs down to the rental, even with assistance. It is impossible for her to “rummage through things” because she cannot see them. In her own apartment she cannot even see her own things. She has to rely on memory and touch even to use toiletries in her own bathroom. 

To complicate matters further, a new and now former caregiver had assigned herself as the unauthorized “co-host” on Air BnB, and after securing Ms. Lindig’s personal information, the “caregiver” began to book and embezzle the payments, dealing with guests personally, and took over the ”cleaning.” As it turns out, the only cleaning that was done was a rigorous attempt to clean out Ms. Lindig’s account, and to alienate guests in the process, without Ms. Lindig’s knowledge. 

I have no comments on the condition of the property, however, I’m so sorry to hear that someone’s vacation was ruined by an individual who was in a trusted position as a caregiver, and has dared to take advantage of innocent guests. I’m sadder still, to learn how someone has manipulated a disabled person to the detriment of Ms. Lindig and her guests. It’s not a win-win situation for anyone involved.
