Do Not work for The Select Group. They hire inexperienced, non-technical people for the most part, and maintain a staff that looks like a modeling agency instead of people who know what they are doing. I lost a great career opportunity because the "account executive", who is a former cheerleader for ahockey team, ruined it for me with her lies about many things.

The Select Group's account management and recruting staff is comprised mostly of former cheerleaders, bartenders, car salesmen, waitresses, hotel clerks and other non-technical staff.  Moreover, when you look the staff up on LinkedIn, you will notice they all loook under 40-like sorority and fraternity ssiters and borthers.  They misled me about a lot of things last year through their "account executive", who found it more important to attend her yoga classes than get me onboarded the right way. I lost a great-paying job with Cisco because they continually lied to me about getting paid for work I would have done under two work orders that were not signed off on yet, and then blew the whistle on them to their client, Cisco-I lost the job because of THEIR lies-Not Fair.

They did not listen to me when I told them to hold off on sending me the work laptop They also continually mislead me about contract rates, start dates, interview dates and times-they even mislead me into thinking I was going to get paid for work I would have done before the two work orders were fully signed and executed-they lied and strung me along for a month plus. Stay away from this company-I believe they will tell you what you want to hear as long as they make their buck.

References vs. Free Leads

The answer to that is to notify your references that if you do not send them a direct communication that you are specifically referring the agency to the reference/company, they are to assume the contact form any company is simply a phishing scam perpetrated by the agency that obtained the reference. That works every tim.

So many of these large staffing agencies no longer hire recruiters.  They employ "fresh from college with no experience" youngsters who really aren't hired to recruit but rather to be salespeople. They have very strict numbers they must hit in terms of how many phone calls they make per day, how many interviews they conduct and how many new accounts they can obtain (this is done through applicants' professional references. It's true.  You submit your references expecting them to call to get background information on YOU and in reality they chat up your references to see if they can gain them as a new client).  It's a good idea to avoid staffing agencies if at all possible.
