I have a skier's edge machine. This is a machine, with a platform that slides back and fourth on a frame to prepare you for skiing.Mine comes with a bar accessory that you can hang onto for your safety while you are learning how to use the machine, and for the powder mogul attachment. I lost the special bolts to the bar, so I called skier's edge to buy some bolts for the coach bar. When I contacted the parts department, they would not sell me the bolts for the coach bar, until I bought a set of $185 replacement bands for the base of the machine, which they recommend that you replace every three years, due to the natural aging of the rubber they claim.I ended up buying the bands, because it would be unsafe for me to use my skier's edge without the bolts. My skier's edge was made in 2004 and used only a few times. The bands on my machine are supple, and do not need to be replaced. If a company can do this, then why has no other company ever done this when I have bought anything from them. A good analogy of this would be if you bought a car, needed a part 4 years later for it, and the car company would not sell the part to you until you bought a new set of tires. If there is any legal action that I can take in this matter, I would like to know.I don't think that a company should be able to do this. The manager at skier's edge was not concerned at all about my safety if I used the bar with no bolts, only that I buy an expensive set of bands that I don't need.

Our records indicate that you did not purchase the machine referenced in report #370307 directly from us. You purchased this machine used from another party. Furthermore, based on the serial number on your machine, it was sold to its original owner in 2002, not 2004 as you indicate in your report. The bands on your machine at the time of your call were 6 years old, twice the recommended age of when the bands must be replaced to ensure safety. Purchasing a used machine does not include the Skier's Edge warranty or trial period nor the user's manual, unless the seller has kept all the original records. It is entirely the purchaser's responsibility to familiarize himself with the plus as well as minuses of purchasing a used machine. We strongly recommend to anybody who is considering purchasing a used machine that they contact us prior to making their purchase. This allows us to share the machine's history, including the model, year, and other pertinent information with the potential purchaser (tips to consider when purchasing a used Skier's Edge machine can be found by visiting www.skiersedge.com/usedmachine/index.html). All machines sold directly from the Skier's Edge Company include a user's manual in which it clearly states that for the safety of the user, we strongly recommend installing new power bands every 3 years. If the power bands are not properly inspected, maintained and replaced, there is a possibility that they could break. Had you purchased your machine directly from the Skier's Edge Company, you would have been informed about power band maintenance and replacement. When you contacted our office to obtain the bolts for your Assistant Coach Bar, which you indicated to us you had lost, the sales person who answered your call followed our company policy with regards to ordering Skier's Edge parts. This policy states that in order for us to sell parts to any Skier's Edge owner, for safety reasons, the power bands must be replaced first if they are 3 or more years old. This policy is the same for original Skier's Edge owners as well as owners of used machines. The power bands are made of natural rubber. They are a wearable item and do not last forever. Like automobile tires, they must be replaced regularly. Again, this is to ensure continuous safe operation of the machine since the power bands are crucial to your safety on the machine. You were treated like any other customer when you contacted us to get replacement bolts for your Assistant Coach Bar. There are no special rules for owners of used machines. The policy regarding replacement power bands is the same for all Skier's Edge owners. We have a policy in place because of our continued efforts to do everything we can to keep our machines (and power bands) safe. We stand behind our policy and products 100%. Should you have any questions, you may contact us at 800-225-9669 Monday-Friday from 8:30 am-5:30 pm MST. Thank you, The Skier's Edge Company
