To those who have posted before me: I just want to say THANK YOU for speaking up and letting me know about your experiences with this company before I did something foolish.
I have an old blanket box that needs refinishing. I approached the TMC booth at Ribfest in Toronto a couple of weeks ago and thought 'Why not?' I gave the gentleman at the booth my contact information and was contacted today by 'Lori' from TMC. She was very pleasant on the phone, but I became a bit suspicious when she placed me on hold - or possibly mute as I didn't hear any hold music - 3 times, to "check with her dispatcher" on the availability of the estimator for this evening. I sensed a bit of desperation from the company when she said that the estimator would be happy to come to my home as late as 10pm (on a Friday night) to look at my cedar chest! I became even more apprehensive when she recommended that both myself and my husband were present for the free estimate because this would not be a cheap job, and it's best to have all of the financial decision makers present to avoid follow up visits for more information. I scheduled an in home visit and as soon as I hung up the phone, I got online and found that my instincts were correct. It seems that for every glowing referral on the TMC website, there is a negative comment on 'Ripoff Report' to combat it. Any company that has salesmen who use tactics like pretending to call the office to get a better price for the potential customer is not one that I want to do business with.
I'm glad I decided to do my homework before I grossly overpaid for work that can be done for a more reasonable price, by a more respectable company.

We regret your experience with us seems to have upset you. TMC invites reviews, both good and bad, from all our customers to improve our firm, to provide better service and value for all our customers in the future. 

We have given your review careful consideration. We work hard to ensure all our clients have a positive experience with us. Unfortunately, we believe you have misinterpreted our positive efforts and come away with an unjustified negative impression. 

We worked to ensure that our estimator that you requested visit you in a prompt and timely manner. Inexplicably, you interpret this prompt service as desperation. I can assure you our firm has operated for 23 years and has tens of thousands of satisfied customers. We pride ourselves on quality work and exceptional service. We have no need for desperate measures of any kind. 

Our representatives provided you with helpful information ahead of your appointment. We were upfront with you that, based on your conversation with Lori, your job may be expensive. We also advised all decision-makers in the home to be present so BOTH of you can discuss the issue and BOTH can make an informed decision. Both suggestions simply provide you, the valued customer, with sound advice and more tools at your disposal to make the best possible decision for YOUR needs. It is in NO way misleading at all.

We take issue that you believe you may have overpaid.  As you never bothered to accept our offer of a free estimate, how do you know what you would have paid? 

We also would reassure you our estimators conduct themselves with integrity. We invite all our customers to comment on the usefulness and professionalism of our estimators. Unfortunately, since you never bothered to actually see an estimator, we must dismiss your relevant comment as the groundless heresy that it is. 

Finally, yes, we have many glowing reviews not only on our website but on independent websites as well. These reviews have been earned by TMC by providing exceptionally good service and value for our valued customers. We work hard to continuously improve our firm in all its practices for the benefit of the customer. We take any customer issues seriously to resolve all genuine problems, including those who, like you, may post the rare, misguided, anonymous, negative review. Therefore, we challenge you to call us and discuss your issues with us. We are confident we can address any concern you may have.
