Tutor Great Danes, aka Ashley Tutor of Olive Branch, Ms., adopted a Great Dane with limited registration. He was sold with limited registration due to the fact that it was an accidental litter between half siblings. This alone is a good reason not to breed him. His parents were not OFA tested for health, and he was Blue Eyed. Blue eyes and light markings are tied to blindness and deafness in Great Danes. We find out sometime later that she bred him at less than a year old to a female of the same age (on her first heat, with no health testing). They got around thier limited registration by registering him with CKC. A formal complaint is being filed against the breeder due to her unethical practices, breeding her dogs on first heat, and breeding dogs at high risk for blindness and deafness.
Not only did she use a stud that should never have been bred, but she bred him to a nearly all white Dam. This has resulted in numerous pups who are nearly all white and at very high risk of being both blind and deaf. She delivered her litter of puppies when she was just barely over one year old, which means that she got pregnant the first time she was in heat. At first heat females are not finish growing and developing. They are still puppies. If you are looking for a good, ethical great dane breeder, look elsewhere. The only way to stop breeders like these, who are no better than a puppy mill, is to not buy from them. Ethical breeders and Rescue groups are the places you should seek out for your great dane puppy.
