UHaul UHell Center Of Shererville ripoff overcharged and double billed Schererville Indiana
We rented a uhaul van in Schererville Indiana when we were on a trip to take our son to college in Evansville and his car broke down in town.When we arrived at the Uhaul store we requested a rental van and were lucky enough to have one available or so we thought we were lucky, this is where all the trouble began.
We recieved the vehicle and signed the contract at a cost of $19.95 per day and .49 cents a mile nothing was mentioned about different rates for weekdays and weekends nor was there anything posted on the walls nor written on the contract.When we returned the van 3 days later and the bill was tallied we were charged $750.94 for a rental that should have cost according to all information available to us only $386.14 total.
We asked why it was so much and we were told that weekend mileage rate was more than twice as much as the weekday rate, we told them that we were never informed of this before we rented the vehicle.But we paid the bill anyway because it was the only way that I could get my license and vehicle registration back.After my wife and I left the center we began discussing the situation and of course became more upset the more we thought about it.
We then proceeded to cancel payment on the check and we contacted the billing department and spoke to the woman that handled the billing for that store,we were told that we should have been told about the rate difference and that we would only have to pay the rate of .49 cents per mile.We were given the amount of $386.14 to pay and immediately wrote and mailed a check in that amount.
Since the time we mailed the amount due to Uhaul we have recieved two threatening letters that we were to pay $750.94 immediately or face collection action.Obviously these people are not only without morals but have absolutely no communication between departments and either do not know the amount that was agreed to and already paid or they simply do not care and are so ignorant and greedy that they just don't care.
