Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

STOP!!!: Even if your reading this as unique van lines is packing your stuff, cancel your service with unique van lines and call a different provider. Its not worth it. I got assigned unique van lines through a contractor and didn't read the reviews until it was too late, take them seriously! I'll just explain the incompetence of unique van lines in chronological order. First the broker tried to up charge me. Then unique van lines tried to up charge me. Then they gave me a 48 hour range of when they would be picking up my stuff, and did not let me know until 24 hours before hand so I had little to no time to plan. They then tried to up charge me a third time.

Unique Van lines gave me an estimate of 5-10 business days to deliver my stuff. It took unique van lines three weeks to deliver. When unique van lines did deliver, they had LOST the pieces to assemble my bed. I now have a 2,000.00 un assembled BED FRAME MISSING THE PARTS. And a company unwilling to help rectify the situation. I haven't unpacked my boxes yet but I expect much of it to be broken or stolen and will update my review as such. You expect problems with movers but Unique Van lines is a different story. The level of incompetence exhibited was likely criminal. I honestly have to make a few calls and see if this is something I should call the police about, or at least a lawyer. Save yourself the trouble, pay a little extra somewhere else, these guys are crooks.

I honestly have to make a few calls and see if this is something I should call the police about, or at least a lawyer. Save yourself the trouble, pay a little extra somewhere else, these guys are crooks.  The police only look into criminal matters, and this would not be a criminal matter they can pursue.  The police will tell you this is a civil matter between you and the mover.  A lawyer will be unable to help you because movers are protected by the Carmack Amendment, a Federal Law that shields movers from consumer lawsuits and limits your recovery to what is in your contract.  Your contract will provide valuation at $0.60 per pound; you cannot pursue for fraud, negligence of any sort, or anything else a normal company could be on the hook for, or assert they've done anything criminal.  Carmack shields movers from this sort of action; Carmack has been around for years, all movers know about it, and nothing I've written here is a secret.

I got assigned unique van lines through a contractor and didn't read the reviews until it was too late You do not need a contractor (the term is broker) to perform your move.  All you really need is the mover, and they need to be able to see what you need to move before the day they come.  If your mover is located in another state, find a mover in your state.  Using the internet to researchg how interstate moves work is always a good idea.  Never look to find a mover on the internet.  Staying off the internet is your best shot at getting a legitimate mover.

Moving is not inexpensive.  It is labor intensive, no automation, and no 2 moves are the same.  Choosing a mover local to you out of the Yellow Pages (hard copy, not internet) is actually your best shot at getting a decent move.  It will cost more to move you than an internet mover, but then you won't have missing hardware that renders your $2000 bed useless.  Legitimate movers include United, Mayflower, Allied, Atlas, North American, Bekins, and a few others.  If you cannot afford a quote from these companies, do not go on the internet and expect you will find someone competent.  Do the move yourself.  Best of luck to you...
