I initially agreed to representation by UpRightLaw following my "free" initial consulation for a pending bankruptcy.  However in the time between the phone call and receiving the retainer agreement to review and sign, I changed my mind, in part because I thought they were too expensive.  I declined to sign the retainer agreement.  I called them back about 2 hours after my "free" initial phone call and cancelled.  They closed my case.  This was on November 29, 2018.  The following day, November 30, 2018, after my case had been already closed, they took a payment from my bank account.  I have been trying to get this returned since they took it.

At first, they gave me "generic" responses along the lines of having to wait 30 to 45 BUSINESS days for the money.  First question - WHY?  Why should I have to wait for money to be returned that they should never have taken in the first place?  We have exceeded that.  We are more than 90 calendar days past now - 3 full months.  Well past 45 business days too.  They have not returned my money, and have stopped responding to emails.  I have tried to call their customer support also, and when I am able to reach them, I have not gotten any specific information on my case only general information.  Most of the time however, I don't reach anyone.  I am on hold for 20 minutes before an automated recording kicks in saying "No agents are available".

If you google UpRightLaw you'll see other complaints as well, notably in "Yelp".  I urge you to look elsewhere.  If you've had a negative experience with these people, make it known.  I have filed a complaint with the ftc (ftc.gov/complaint) and urge others who have bee ripped off by these people to do the same.  You can also go on Facebook (Facebook.com/UpRightLaw).  There is a section front and center when the page loads for "Recommendations and Reviews".  Tell them what you think!!!  I sent a message to the "Managing Partner" on Facebook as well.  He has a link on the Facebook UpRightLaw page to his personal page.  No response.  If you make him aware of your experience with UpRightLaw too, he will not be able to claim that he didn't know about the problems.
