Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

When does a contractor deserve the designation of BAD and DISHONEST? Its when they do terrible work, do not stand by their work and fail to adhere to a contract. This partly describes my $15,000 loss by using Urban Kitchen and Bath of Clearwater, FL Other flooring contractors have told us that only removing the damaged floor and replacing it with new flooring ($15000) will get us back to what we contracted for.

Urban Kitchen and Bath was contracted to install an engineered wood floor that the installing crew left not glued to the floor (many hollow spots) and the surface covered with dried adhesive. After numerous calls and emails to Jered Snelson (owner of Urban Kitchen and Bath) he finally sent, about a week later, a different two man crew to remove what was now cured and hardened adhesive on the floors surface.

The Urban Kitchen and Bath workers complained that they couldnt get the hardened glue off the floor. One worker pointed out several areas on the floor where he rubbed for hours trying to remove the cured adhesive using chemicals without success. It was very visible to me that the factory finish (25 year warranty) was damaged beyond repair.

Later the same day, I caught the Urban Kitchen and Bath workers applying a urethane-based rejuvenator compound (used only for old, worn floors) to cover-up the damage they caused using harsh chemicals (acetone and mineral spirits) when trying to unsuccessfully remove the cured glue. The scratch resistant factory applied finish (25 year warranty) was now covered with an easy to scratch, sticky rejuvenator top coat that no one seems to know how to remove including Urban Kitchen and Bath.

Jered Snelson told us that we caused the problem and there was nothing he could do. Subsequently, Mr. Snelson said he just didnt have the money to make the necessary repairs. Then, through mediation conducted through the Better Business Bureau he agreed to and signed an agreement to attempt to correct the situation. He did nothing and the contract deadline has long passed. Most of what Jered Snelson didn't do he documented in emails to me.
I contacted the National Wood Flooring Association and they suggested that one of their Certified Floor Inspectors examine the floor and issue a report of his findings. The extensive final report including 22 photographs said the floor looks awful and was actually installed wrong. Many installation problems were discovered by the inspector which is supported by extensive written commentary and 22 photographs.

I have worked with many contractors over the years on small to very large projects. However, the very worst of my experiences is with Jered Snelson and Urban Kitchen and Bath.

PS:  Jered Snelson took our $5000.00 deposit and kept telling us the wood floor material was out of stock.  After calling the manufacturer and asking if the flooring material was out stock and when would it be available the reply was "We have not been out of stock".  Apparently, Jered Snelson uses his customer's monies to finance other things and lies about why the job was not being started after more than a 6 week wait for an "immediate" promised start.

More Than One Upset Customer

Only one customer took the time to report about his business practices.  He is lucky.  When people in the building asked us about our satifaction rating with Urban Kitchen of Clearwater, we could NOT recommend him.

The Better Business Bureau suggessted mediation and the customer and Jered agreed to to a follow a mediation process.  Jered agreed to do a number of things to resolve the complaint by fixing loose boards, removing the glue spots and taking of the Rejuvenator coating (used on old floors) that he put on to hide the problems.  I caught his employees doing the hiding of the problems they caused with Rejuvinator and one of his employees admitted that the product was meant for use on old floors.

I paid an expert consultant from the National Wood Flooring Association to examine the floors and provide an opinion.  The report included many pictures and a scathering narrative of how bad the job was done.

Jered of Urban Kitchen of Clearwater choose to totally ignore the report and pictures as well the promises he made during a BBB mediation session..  I agreed that if he did what he promised in mediation the problems would be resolved to my satisfaction and I would happy.  He didn't anything he promised--NOT ONE promise was kept.  He continued to ignore me and the problems which turned out to be his expensive mistake

He Always Lies About Who Did What

This rebuttal is one packed with lies.  We were not the only customer upset with Urban Kitchen of Cleawater, FL.  The company was fired from several other jobs in the same building.

Somehow the owner had his BBB "report cleaned" from an unsatisfactory rating because they caught him in so many lies.

BTW, we recently redid our very large kitchen in our new home and rate the job done by another contractor as excellent.  We are now doing over the master bath.

For either of the above projects (lots of $$$) we didn't even think of Jered for doing anything.

What I don't like are LIARS who are weasels in sheeps clothing.  As always, Buyer Beware and don't fall for a smooth talking cheat when you are buying something from a contractor.  BEWARE!!

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

Wed, September 23, 2015

This report has been posted for quite some time and rather than get into the details of these fabricated statements I will simply say this: I did not, nor did anyone from my company walk glue across the new floor of this customer. The customer inspected the work on the last day and paid us in full, it was wet and he was asked not to walk on it and after we left he did. This resulted in the finish becoming dull in the spots where glue was. I was told by the client via email that he would have no contact with me unless I sent him a check for $20k which is almost double the value of the project. I opted to disconnect from the customer as I felt there was no reasonable solution for him that was acceptable and he had taken no responsibility but rather shifted the blame to my company saying that we caused this somehow. I have been in business since 2008 and have had 100's of customers and have great reviews. My BBB is an A+ rating. I simply wanted to finally add my 2 cents to this as it comes up and people read it and make assumptions about my company but the truth is there are just some people that are less than honest in situations like this because they just bought and expensive product and no one wants to buy anything expensive again after they have damaged it. They would rather find someone to blame and attempt to make them selves right in the matter. Anyway, that's that.. So pay attention to the good stuff. Like anything else in this world if 1000 people say they think something is great and 1 is out there screaming it's crap, he's probably wrong. Additionally: it's my understanding that the problem was later resolved for a minimal cost in a manner I offered many times to do for him just to make him happy.
