Stopped by Valero in Dallas, Texas at Coit Rd and McCallum Blvd today to fill up my car with gas. My car tank capicity is only 13 gallons, and somehow at this gas station it held over 15 gallons of gas, this was the first time that I ever had it go over 13 gallons in the 5 years that I have owned my car. I double checked my owners manuel to make sure I wasn't mistaken about the size of my tank, and sure enough it has a 13.2 gallon tank capicity. Somehow I think this company is shorting the consumer on the actual amount that they are getting in a gallon. According to my math, if my car was on its last drop of gas, then I was over charged $5.41. At $2.85 a gallon, and 13.2 gallon tank, then my total should have been $37.62 and I was charged $43.03. I know that this is only five bucks, but with all the money the gas industry is making off of us, imagine them ripping of an extra 5 bucks per car that goes to the pump each day. I couldn't find a website to report it to the goverment or whoever follows-up on this, so I really hope this will help.

Sticker on gas pumps

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sat, April 15, 2006

Every gas pump has a sticker that shows the dates when the pump was last checked by the state for accuracy. The next time you drive by a convenience store, just go look at the sticker and it will have the name of the regulatory agency that does those readings in your state.
