I was approached by a man in a rented Jeep Liberty today in the parking lot of the Home Depot across from Chinook Mall. His story was almost exactly the same, he was in Calgary for a fashion show, and had to leave for Italy today, but didn't want to pay the duty tax on the way back. The good news is I didn't take his offer, there were too many red flags for me. I found it odd that he couldn't leave the jackets with his family when
he went back to Italy, that seems like an easy way out of his dilemma. He also claimed to speak poor English, but during our entire conversation of about 5 minutes, he seemed to comprehend everything I said, and never once asked me to clarify or repeat anything I said. He also gave me the most bizarre compliment, saying I looked European. That and I'm clearly too poor to afford his jackets, he saw me step out of a rusted 17 year old Ford.
Hope this helps anyone else who runs into him, don't take his offer!

In response to Gene, in Northwest Calgary at Brentwood Mall regarding the fake fashion consultant, I too was ripped-off at this same Mall yesterday, except at the Co-op store across the street. This individual was driving a rented Red Ford Edge SUV and him too, showed me ID, passport and rental car information. He told me his name was Salvadori and was on his way the airport, needing directions. He was to catch a flight to Milan, Italy. He wanted me to purchase some jackets and suits in his SUV for a total of $850.00 and I declined. After that, he would accept $300 for what I thought were genuine quality articles of clothing, but of course, were not. I never thought that trying to help someone, by saving them taxes at the aiport could get your into soo much trouble. In the end, I got 3 low end jackets, and 1 decent dress shirt for $300.00. He gave me some information on how to contact him, but I assume that none of it was legit either. I did not speak to his accomplice either. The individual I spoke with was about 5'7" tall, bald head, mustache, foreign accent (who apparently didn't speak very good english), wearing blue jeans, black dress shoes, a dress shirt, tie, and black over coat. He obviously rents different vehicles every time him and his friend go out to make someone's life a instant nightmare, but it still comes back to the old saying "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" right? Hope is doesn't happen to anyone again! Spencer Calgary, Alberta
