In February of this year I discovered fraudulent activity taking place on my WaMu debit card totalling over $1,000. At the time, I was unemployed and was using a different account to pay my bills. This account had not been used for a month and only had $14.59 in it. As soon as I discovered the fraudulent activity while checking my account online, I found WaMu's fraud department phone number on their website and contacted them immediately. They gave me a provisional credit and started the investigation. I received a letter in the mail dated February 20, 2008 from Alex Wilson of WaMu Debit Card Claims with a form to fill out and return. I faxed this form back to them on February 25th. I faxed the second form on February 28th. My fax machine said the faxes were completed successfully.

In March, I received another letter from Alex Wilson stating "We sent you an Affidavit and asked you to complete, sign, and return it, but it has not been received by us." What?? I faxed them TWICE! This letter included two new forms and a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope to WaMu Debit Card Claims. I scanned the two filled-out forms into my computer as my proof, them placed them in the WaMu envelope and mailed them.

The next letter I received was dated April 8, 2008 and stated, exactly as Kristin from New Jersey wrote: "We have completed our investigation into your claim of unauthorized use on the account referenced above. At this time we are not able to accept your claim of unauthorized use because: The information available to us does not validate your claim of fraud. We have sent you requests for additional information and have not received a response. Therefore, we are closing our investigation at this time. We will be reversing this credit and reducing your account balance by the same amount on April 18, 2008."

Are they kidding me??? I responded to them in every way they gave me to do so. When I called to talk to someone about it, I said as much. The woman I spoke with claimed to be trying to "help" me, but told me at the very beginning of our conversation that the decision would not be reversed regardless of what I said. I was absolutely furious and demanded to speak to a manager - in fact, I demanded to speak to Alex Wilson, and all the woman did was snort at me and tell me he wasn't there. She put me on hold for quite some time and then came back and told me no managers were available to speak to me right then and that if I gave her myname and number, someone would call me back in 24 to 48 hours.

I can tell you one thing - THEY ARE NOT TAKING MY MONEY! I will clean out that account and let it sit there before I will let them do this to me!

Almost Identical Situation as Original Poster.

I am currently going through the same situation as the original reporter, almost to a tee except for the fact that I have been checking up on my claim at lease a couple of times per week. My situation is with Chase (ex Wamu). I have been treated with nothing but disrespect, even though I have clear evidence that I was not the one making the transactions. I have proof that I was working at the time of some of the transactions, and I also made a transaction myself in my city at the same time as the other transactions were being made in Las Vegas. I have repeatedly been refused to talk to a supervisor, and have never been called back at all when told that one would contact me. I feel just as scammed by Chase as the actual person who stole my identity! Have any of the above users made any progress on your claims since you originally posted? I am very frustrated with my situation and am wondering what to do next as I really can't afford to lose this money for nothing.
