Wells Fargo - charging me a late fee when they screwed up Souix Falls South Dakota
I was laid off from my job and called Wells Fargo to ask for a forbearance on my student loans. I was granted a two month forbearance and told that it would not go into effect until the paperwork was received. Fine. I sent the paperwork in and paid for March, expecting to skip April and May and have my next payment due in June. In May I start getting collection calls. I called Wells Fargo and was told that they had only sent me forbearance paperwork on one of my two student loans therefore there system was showing that I was delinquent on the second loan. I was never told before this that I needed to complete separate forms for each loan and had no idea this was the case. The man apologize to me, said he would send out the additional form right away (which he did) and that once they received it the forbearance would be retroactive to the date the first form had been filed. I received it, completed it, sent it back as I was instructed. My next payment is due June 20. I sent them an email through the website asking them to remove the late fee that had been applied to my account which they did. Then the next day I get an email from them stating that after further review the late fee charge is valid and was reapplied to my account. I have called two different people who say that it was a managers decision and they understand my frustration but their hands are tied. It is only $15, but the principle of it is infuriating!!! They made a gaff and then I get nailed with a $15 penalty, when I did everything I was instructed to do.
