The only way to prove that the car didn't have a clean Carfax report would have been to get your own Carfax report (which you should always do when buying a car). The body shop repair estimate doesn't prove anything. It's possible that a vehicle could be damaged and it won't show up on Carfax. They admit as much on their homepage, but some info is better than none. Given that, Carfax is not enough. What you really need to do before buying a used car is to have it inspected by your own mechanic. You're talking about an investment that's over $10K. Taking the word of a used car salesman is nuts when you have that kind of money involved.
