Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I recently saw some complaints about Long Island Vet Specialists (LIVS)and Doctors Marino and Loughin and their associates. My heart goes out to the families of these pets - you are not alone. LIVS has been running scams on consumers in Nassau County for over 15 years.

Their owner Dominic Marino is frequently sued but the animal protection laws in NY are weak and his lawyers are strong (he makes millions defrauding Nassau County locals). He has been sued hundreds of times in local small claims court but small claims cases are not public record.

The vet industry in NY is unregulated and the board that oversees vet care in NY is managed by Dominic Marino's co-owner at LIVS so the hundreds of filed complaints have never received a judicial hearing. They are all dismissed upon receipt. Complaints have even been filed by 9 former veterinarians from LIVS - all dismissed without a hearing. I tried to call the district attorney about what they did to my dear sweet baby but my calls were never returned.

This man Marino and his fraud are unstoppable. He is too well connected. He is tight with local politicos and cops. Marino flagrantly lies in his own biography on LIVS' website about his credentials and leaves out embarrasing parts of his academic history - such as the fact that his early college years were at a remedial junior college and he only moved to Auburn later.

Long Island Vet Specialists doctors  are not paid based on the care they give your pet - they are paid based on a percentage of the revenue they sell you and bill you for, so they are notorious for pushing services and procedures that are not needed and completely inappropriate. Many peoples dogs and cats have been critically injured at LIVS. The care is horrible - they are however great salespeople - very smoothe and practiced and coached. Reputable vets say to stay away from LIVS - vets who refer patients to LIVS receive referal fees $$.

My dear sweet dalmation went there for simple no risk diagnostics and was SO INJURED BY LIVS that he was never the same and died. They gave him the wrong chemicals and too many chemicals and handled him atrociously. AVOID this place at ALL COSTS. Years ago they were the only 24 hour facility in the area but now there are many OTHER OPTIONS IN THE AREA.

Look at the horror stories on Yelp and Facebook and the Better Business Bureau but look deep - LIVS pays to have bad reviews pushed down. Go somewhere else if you love your pet.

My dear dog was only 5 and what they did to him is horrible beyond description. I have had nightmares for months. The doctors there are listed as highly specialized but dont be fooled - many are actually just "on staff consultants" who are only there for one day a month for an hour and the majority of the pets are seen by residents and the same two or three staff doctors who are equity partners.

I have startd to see more and more stories about them making it into the press to expose them. If your pet has been harmed at LIVS or your family financially ripped off by LIVS like so many others have been, you should complain to the district attorney and the attorney general. I do not know how they have been allowed to remain in business, but if you treasure your family pet then stay away from LIVS.

The saddest part is they seem to run nearly identical scams on people over and over again - same pitch - same injuries etc. My heart goes out to all the victims - Dominic Marino, Catherine Loughin, Brian McKena, Lexi Kanes, Mike Selmer - they should be in prison but are allowed to commit their crimes on Nassu County residents every day. I hope this report will save others from going to LIVS and seeing their dog suffer horribly and die as mine did.

By the way - beware when they offer you their free credit account to help you pay over time for all the services they will try to sell you (they charge you 22% interest). It comes after the high pressured sales pitch where they terrify you into thinking your pet needs all kinds of procedures they dont need and have all kinds of diseases that they dont actually have. Then they size you up to see if they can bilk your insurance company and how much additional money you can put on credit cards - then they offer you credit and convince and coerce you that you must do all this. A week later you are broke and your pet is dead but not until they have squeezed every last penny out of you and strung out your family pet until the coffers run dry.

Residents are bullied by the staff doctors into looking the other way. Those who report the crimes have been sued by Marino.

Marino did not get his millions by taking honest care of pets. He got it through scams and frauds against the public in Nassau County NY.

I am so sorry for the loss of you dog.  My dog died there June 2020.  I also was swindled by Catherine Loughlin and talked into doing an unneccessary test, that ultimately took my dogs life.

I am so sorry to read these terrible stories. I had a near identical experience with LIVS and Dominic Marino years ago when I lived in NY. They are negligent and reckless and sloppy. Marino is charming and polite - as are most scam artists. He is a total fraudster. He lies about his credentials and his background and his education. He claims to be a board certified neurologist - IT IS A LIE. Look it up with the NY Board. He is NOT actually board certified in neurology - but rather in crap like acupuncture. When I lived in NY my neighbors daughter worked briefly at LIVS - she quit and said Dominic Marino was a certified sociopath, a bully, and a fraudster - and charming like all sociopaths.

I did not believe her - until he swindled me and injured my dog. Marino routinely bills and charges for things that they should do but Never Actually Perform - such as basic safety protocols which one would assume they do - but they don't - and by not doing these things - even though he charges for them - he injures and kills many pets. He knows the pets will get injured and relishes in charging for things not done - and then charging more to repair the injuries he causes. He is essentially a local mobster - with ties to local corrupt small town Long Island cops. Anyone who ever worked there in the past 20 years tells similar stories. I recently read that a for profit chain of pet hospitals bought part of LIVS.

If they are doing business with a criminal like Marino then you should stay away from them. Anyone who has been at LIVS more than a few years winds up in on the scams - its the vet equivalent of The Firm with Tom Cruise. Most good or honorable vets see what goes on and quit within the first few years. Very few stay a long time and those who stay are in on the scams. Some pets do get helped there - especially if treated by one of the newer doctors who are not yet corrupted. My friends still in the area tell me the scams have gotten worse. I thank who started this report and hope it warns people to be careful.

Murderers. Criminals. Robbers. Dominic Marino is a monster. Catherine Loughin is insane - she enjoys killing animals and bilking owners. Keep your pets far away from them.

I recently saw these reports. I agree with all of them. LIVS is a FRAUD and a Mill. My friend worked there and said it is horrific what they do to peoples family pets at Long Island Vet Specialists (LIVS). The animals are abused and mistreated nd harmed and killed - to make money. They just want to sell you things and financially exploit you. Marino is the architect of the fraud - Loughin is his Dr. Mengele - and half the orthapedic and neuro doctors in the place are in on the scam as is the administrator.

Please - if you love your pet go anywhere else. They should be in jail. They are evil. They are criminals. They are also smooth talking salesmen like you have never experienced anywhere. They garner your trust and then they swindle you out of a fortune, and then your pet dies and is cremated before you realize the body should have been saved for evidence. Horrible place and horrible people. I know so many people who have been swindled here and do not understand how they get away with it for so many years.

So sad to hear LIVS and Dr. Marino continue to commit crimes against pets in the area. Dr. Catherine Loughin has joined him as his new partner in crime replacing his ex wife Dr. Farber. They have 3 scenarios -

1. Harming Pets and profiting from it.

2. Swindling Owners.

3. Billing you for a specialist while an untrained and not supervised resident experiments on your loved family pet. If you love your pet DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE for ANY reason.

They will be harmed and you will be swindled. Years ago there were 1 or 2 decent specialists here who were independent contractors and the eye guy is decent but the rest of the place is A FRAUD MILL. So sad to hear they are still getting away with it. They injured my dogs kidneys in a procedure that I should not have been sold - and that was done incorrectly by an untrained resident which resulted in permanent kidney damage to my dog....and his death. HORRIBLE

Gerald, My condolences go out to you. Long Island Vet Specialists and Catherine Loughin did the same thing to me and my sweet beautiful dog. LIVS's behavior is criminal. Loughin, Marino, and their colleagues at LIVS have brought so much misery to so many families in Long Island and have harmed and injured so many pet's lives. They make millions of dollars $$$ - literally millions in their pockets every year doing this. If it is any consolation, please do not feel guilty for being suckered by LIVS. They are master fraudsters and know how to extort loving pet owners who are desperately seeking care for their 4 legged family members. They are master salespeople - not good hearted vets. You are not the only one to get caught in their trap. You like so many were just looking to do the best for your dog, and LIVS doctors and partners are trained to exploit this. They are convincing con artists who happen to have vet degrees and they get lots of people not just you. I am so sorry for you loss. You are one of many. I hope you can find comfort in all the good memories of your dog and can eventually not think about what LIVS did to you and your dog and your family. It was interesting to read how they get away with this so often - it makes sense with all the facts and all the stories I have heard from others who fell prey to the scam artists at LIVS. I will say a prayer for your family and your dear dog.
