Eight months ago I asked for an auto insurance quote on line, giving minimal information and certainly not my SS#. I immediately started receiving requests from various StateFarm agents, which I totally ignored because had I wished to go with StateFarm I would have gone to my local agent. Yesterday, 12/26/23, I get a notification in the mail that Rob Hoy from a StateFarm agency in Hubbard, Ohio had obtained my credit report without my knowledge nor consent! When I confronted him he claims they buy leads from ZipQuote. Mr. Hoy doesn't feel he did anything wrong. I have reported him to the Ohio Insurance Commission to see if they will do anything about this. I have also notified ZipQuote of my intention to proceed with legal action.
Never ask for any kind of a quote on line for health or auto insurance. Nice of Mr. Hoy to take it upon himself to run my credit 8 months later.

Anyone can run your credit report anytime they feel like. They don't need your SSN. They also don't need your permission. That's why the credit bureaus are multi billion dollar companies. They collect your information and sell it. Same goes for most other companies who collect information, most of them will sell it. There's no law against it, so you would be laughed out of court if you tried to pursue legal action. If you don't want random people responding to you, why are you posting here?

Apparently you are one of those insurance people who have to pay for leads! You must not comprehend English very well. As I stated, I was not interested in StateFarm and he took it upon himself to run my credit without my consent or knowledge eight months after the fact, do you comprehend that? Mind your own business Mr. Insurance salesman. I hope you get in trouble for it if you are violating HIPAA laws too!

First off it was EIGHT months ago and that is an invasion of privacy. If you don't have a problem with it, good for you, let them run your credit all you like. They had no right nor business running mine! Can you comprehend I said I was not interested in StateFarm? Keep your comments to your self since it doesn't concern you!

Anyone can do a soft credit pull. That's the entire business of credit reporting agencies. Why are you so concerned about it? Soft pulls don't affect your credit score. And yes, places like Zipquote or whatever are lead aggregators. Insurance agents buy leads from them and call you. If you want to get a quote, either go to an agent or request it directly from the insurance company.
