After buying a pallet of 9Lives wet canned food in Tuna Flakes in Sauce, i fed my eager and hungry three cats. When i first opened the can and poured the contents onto their dishes, i noticed white bones all over it. I became concerned, but thinking that a food carrier would not feed our pets something unsafe pushed my concerns down. The first time of feeding all three cats of various ages this food, nothing happened but one cat did seem to salivate on the flor that night when she seemed to be coughing up a hairball (no hairball ever came up she would cough and salivate). The next night i fed my three little ones the same, 9 Lives Tuna flakes in sauce. They scarfed it down as usual. I went to the next room and a few minutes later after finishing his meal, one of my cats sounded like they too were starting a hairball. As he "coughed", ii thought it was strange the other did that after she ate the same stuff the night prior.
Suddenly i hears a wheezing, as if gasping of air in a small straw, from one of them in the next room. I ran in the room to see one of my cats fall to the side, legs out and stiff as a board, gasping for air! He was choking to death!!!!!! I freaked out crying and screaming and didnt know what to do. I pick his stiff body up and pounded his sides and pushed on them, grabbed his mouth and stuck my fingers in there and tried to get down his throat. i dont know how many seconds went by, it seems forever.... and finally some food came out of his mouth and he began to breath again. Shaking and crying, i watched him then confiscated all the food on their plates that were left. I then opened a new can and sifted through, and to my amazement i pulled out nearly THIRTY....(30) bones out of that ONE CAN! It dawned on my that i fed them this disgusting stuff and it hurt even more that i trusted a pet food company and entrusted my pets lives to them that they would be safe eating these bones! I pulled out more cans, and was sickened even more with each can being opened to discover they all were crazy filled with BONES BONES BONES. These were not just some tiny little bones either! These were thick, sharp, and some as long as over one inch in size! How does ANYONE see these and think its ok to feed this to our pets? How does this get ok'd and pass ANY STANDARDS???? I am sick at the thought that there are BILLIONS of these cans floating around out there. PLEASE look at your pets foods, wet or dry, before feeding them. I can imagine there is not a handful of cats out there that have choked or even died from this and its possible the owner does not even realize it. I called 9 Lives with my complaint and they asked me to send in the bones and cans, which i am now thinking of NOT doing. I am unsure if they just want to "do away" with evidence. If anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with this matter properly please post!
