This complaint is against AJ Spencer a private publisher from Michigan. A friend and I collaborated on a children's book. The book was written by her and illustrated by me. A disc was then sent to AJ Spencer along with a fee of $350,00.

There were many phone calls back and forth discussing details of the book. A personal check was sent from my account to cover initial "printing costs."The check was cashed and 25 books were promised to be shipped to me within 2 weeks.

I waited for the books to no avail. I was lied to and taken for my money. I contacted AJ Spencer and told her I was giving her 2 more weeks to make good on the product. She also took pre orders on her website from family and friends and has not refunded any of their money. The people that ordered have all filed complaints with paypal.

I have come to find out that we are not the only people AJ Spencer has ripped off. We have now found a reputable publisher and are moving forward with the book. All I seek is a refund of my $350.00 and refunds to all customers who have pre ordered from her website. I am also annoyed to hear she is slandering us on her website which is not only immature but very unprofessional.

Angela Eaens Merchant,

This is really like beating a dead horse Ms. Angela Eaens Merchant!!! AJ Spencer is a hidden name that she uses so she can scam people for their money! She also preys on beautiful women in hopes of having a relationship with them. When the women tells her that she is heterosexual and not a l*****n Ms. Angela Eaens Merchant AJ proceeds to become psycho and stop printing
books.

Yes, the illustrator paid for the copies of the book and she never received any books. Angela Eaens Merchant AKA AJ did not send me a proof before she printed 25 books. There were grammatical errors as she DID NOT EDIT (which was included in the price). I was working with AJ Spencer
Publishing for two different books. I still to this day have not received my refund ($350) for
the novel or 25 copies of the unedited novel. AJ Spencer is a SCAM ARTIST!!!!! I know of 3-6 other writers that fell for her lies and I will be forwarding this link to them so they can respond. Not that anyone really cares about AJ Spencer anymorean entire coven of SALEM witches served her justice. How do you like those Crabapples AJ?

As for the pre sales of the childrens bookAJ set up a paypal account and all of my friends, family and client had bought a book from her publishing company. When she refused to correct the book she also refused to NOT ship the incorrect book to the people that purchased it. Those people filed
a paypal dispute and were refunded. I had nothing to do with taking peoples money and then NOT sending them a product. Actually my NEW and ETHICAL publisher has agreed to send the ripped off people a corrected copy of my childrens book.

Look at my work- it clearly needs to be edited. Seriously! Nothing that comes from AJ is edited or corrected. RUN if you are straight attractive women, RUN!!!! The bottom line is that AJ Spencer/
Angela Eaens Merchant took $350 for a novel to publish and never published it or
refunded the money. AJ Spencer/ Angela Eaens Merchant took $350 for a childrens
book and never edited it and published it incorrectly, presold it to people, and those people had to file a paypal dispute to get their money back and she never refunded the money for the product. She deleted everyone, changed her phone number and removed her web site so NO ONE could contact her with complaints. She then left me to explain to everyone that bought books
why there were not getting books in March. AJ Spencer/ Angela Eaens Merchant is
blackballed from ANY event that I am associates with-She took a manuscript from
Kelly Spanger, Salem Witch and never returned it and has yet to contact her or place this piece in her so-called magazine!!!

Even worseAJ Spencer/ Angela Eaens Merchant part took in the filming of my documentary that is based off of my paranormal novel. The day before its release she emailed the production company and threatened to sue them and myself if they released her image in the film. We clearly had her
live interview giving us permission to use the footage. However, we decided to do the ethical thing and respect her wishes (despite how much of a pain in the a** it was for me, the film crew and the people that purchased a copy) and took her out. This delayed the documentary by another 2 months- THANKS AJ- YOU WIN. Now please take my money, Jannys money and go hire a prostitute, get a sex change, or shove it up you tight a**. Leave us alone and go F**K yourself because no one in her right mind would touch a nasty, drunkin smoke reeking d**e like you! lso, remove the Queens picture from your page or we will make your life a living h**l!!!!!!!! OH, there WAS NO WRITTEN CONTRACT!!! WE HAVE CANCELED CHECKS AND AS SOON AS WE FIGURE OUT YOUR MANY ADDRESSES WE WILLHAUL YOUR A** TO COURT!!!!

Basete senfd evil back..magna, gea diana mater de la stella!! !

I am the publisher that is publishing this childrens book in fact we have gotten three authors who had books published by AJ Spencer.  The first red flag that authors should know when considering a publishing contract with AJ Spencer is that her contract gives her your book.  She actually takes your work as her own for 5 years.

Whether the author or illustrator pays for the contract and any copies does not matter, the money was paid and the product was never provided.  In the rebuttal the previous publisher stated nobody works for free.  Well that is partially correct, we at AG Press will work with any author to get their book published and we come through with everything we offer in our contract. We have published two books that were previously published by AJ Spencer however, we had to have these books edited as there were numerous spelling and grammar errors.

AJ Spencer will take your money and is not accountable for any problems that arise including poor quality work and will not refund your money.  She admits receiving the $350 and did not provide what was paid for, if you read the initial post and her rebuttal you will see that the $350 included 25 copies and should have been provided regardless of any other issues.

What really happened

This incident mentioned by the poster is not the whole truth. She, the poster, was the illustrator for a childrens book written by an author who was on contract with AJ Spencer Publishing. The author had promised 50% of her royalties; on own free will, to pay for the illustrations provided without talking to us first. Up until that point, she- the illustrator, was not on contract with AJ Spencer Publishing. A whole new contract had to be drafted and signed.

The illstrator paid the publisher fees on behalf of the author, as they were friends. The $350 publishing fee went to the publishing of the first 25 copies of the book in question. The books were almost ready when the author decided to change the book; this made the publishing process take even longer.  We had to halt the printing until things got worked out.

It was also the author who decided to be greedy. She wanted us to churn out over 100 books (plus the original 25) and ship them all to her for FREE. No body in the world works for free, why should we? And to top it off, she had demanded that we give her 100% of the proceeds; and that was way more than agreed upon in the contract she had signed.

AJ Spencer had told the author things didnt work that way; that the books (and their materials) have to be paid for, and that she(AJ Spencer) was NOT going to pay out-of-pocket for the shipping; or anything else. The author then cancelled her contract and didnt refund any of the money she had taken from people.including, but not limited to the illustrator she never paid.

AJ Spencer of AJ Spencer Publishing offers 30% to her royalty authors. She is able to do so because she does most of the work herself, literally. She puts an enormous amount of time and energy to putting these books together for the authors she takes on; her only fault is that she is too kind-hearted and some people take that as a weakness.
