Well she suddenly "is no longer with the company". 2 emails sent out yesterday, one made it sound like she left and the other made it sound like she was sick. Do they even know what they are doing? I wouldn't book this company if my life depended on it. Who knows if they'll even be in business!

I have been a Wedding DJ for over 20 years, my company is local to the North Carolina/South Carolina Coast and at times was located in the Hudson Valley region of NY. On ocassion I do sub-contract with other companies to fill in the holes on my monthly schedule. I was contacted by the above company back in 2005 and asked if I was interested in covering a gig they had in Atlantic Beach. I am located in SC,Myrtle Beach area, and that particular summer I was doing alot of traveling gigs in Hilton Head and Charlston and jumped at the opportunity to do a gig extremely close to home. about a week prior to the Wedding I recieved the packet and was going over it, the Wedding was being held at the "Sheraton" in Atlantic Beach. I thought this was strange because anyone who knows this area knows that Atlantic has no such resort, in fact they don't have any resorts, I just figured it might be near Atlantic Beach. Well when I finally contacted the Mother of the bride,we went round and round about the street she was giving me and that it was in Atlantic Beach (I had actually Driven up to the barricades seperating North Myrtle Beach and Atlantic Beach to see if there was a Sheraton bordering it) well turns out Solid Gold Sound left out one small detail, North Carolina. Atlantic Beach, North Carolina is 5 hours from here,and different as night and day from Atlantic Beach,South Carolina. I being a proffesional with a high respect for our industry decided to do the Wedding anyway because I really know the importance of the day and want to keep us respectable. It was a disaster, I didn't have all the info I was supposed to have, and just had to edge it to the best of my abilities, and unfortunately screwed the pooch so to speak. After all the time and out of pocket money (no check sent to cover expenses) it took me 6 months to just get the bare minimum 200 dollar check, barely covering 75% of what I shelled out. Last season I was in transition to move to NC. I was asked by Solid Gold if I could possibly fill a gig in Mebane North Carolina, it was three days befor the event and I scurried to get it together. among the things I was not told, I was going to be hauling my gear by hand to a lakefront for the ceremony part, then lug it by hand back to the formal tent which was supposed to be "right there". There was no cell phone service,nor was there internet (this was supposed to be in a town, no in the wood) The Wedding planner freaked out, Parents were unaware that I was from NY with a NY accent and style to my DJ'ing, and again it was a true disaster. This time I recieved NOTHING. I have been contacted several times this year last minute, for gigs in obscure places hours from here and being offered dirt pay (200 bucks, I charge 600 and up) resting on my own businesses reputation I declined all the Solid Gold Gigs. I found out that all the event info was complete and ready a year befor the wedding, my question was why did they wait a year to book a DJ, a year prior I can tell you if I'm booked or not and you may have a shot at getting me. I just recently recieved an E-mail from a new rep from this company stating she has taken over operations, Sorry not interested.

While I feel for this bride (and anyone else taken in by this company) a good part of the blame has to be shouldered by the person who made the decision to hire A Solid Gold Sound in the first place, and for what reason. This company markets themselves by advertising lower than normal rates for the markets they are in. Any consumer seeking DJ services should shop around, and try to understand that if a particular entertainer is coming in with a quote that is HUNDREDS of dollars less, there is usually a reason. For anyone hiring an entertainer in the future, here are a few questions to ask BEFORE you sign a contract: Do you have a written contract with your specific DJ? It is extremely important to have your booking confirmed in writing, especially if you are paying an initial retainer. This protects you from unscrupulous operators. If you are expecting a specific entertainer, make sure you get it in writing as well. Are there any hidden charges? All costs should be clearly defined in your contract. How many years of experience does your entertainer have? Experience brings knowledge of common problems and situations. Are you insured? Insurance is a part of any legitimate business. Liability and casualty policies protect yourself, your guests and the venue. It is also a way to separate the professionals from the amateurs. Many venues are beginning to require proof of liability. Ask for proof of liability insurance. Disc Jockeys receive a Certificate of Liability which can be used as proof. Do you use Professional Equipment? Ask whether your prospective Disc Jockey works with professional audio equipment. Remember that professional gear does not guarantee an entertainer's talent or service level, but is simply a tool for building an exceptional event. Do you provide back-up equipment at our event? Weddings are once in a lifetime events. A back-up system protects your investment. It is also important to know if your Disc Jockey has a back-up plan in case of illness or an accident. How do you guarantee my reception will be special? All professional DJs will have a questionnaire to help you plan your wedding. It should contain all the names they will need to pronounce, all the events with a timeline included, all the necessary questions from the obvious will you be dancing with your father? to things you might not have yet considered, who (and if) will give the blessing before the meal?. Many DJs now use an on-line system that can be updated at your leisure. Will you be willing to play requests and discuss music ahead of time? We are also in the same mess except we do have video of the guest none of the father/daughter dance grandfather/granddaughter dance which was so important to my daughter his b-day was then and he was the one who cut the cord on his first great-grandson's birth the bride/goom was no one of importance in this video of course John says these things happen to have someone else there that day to replace the one schduled---no phone calls----thee videographer said she was called that morning this was to be unedited due to the flower girl was 2 [brides neice] and she had practiced for months on the flowers and of course walked all the way down the aisle stopped threw all the flowers in one spot went and got her fruit snacks and sat on steps the ring bearer 5 yr old wasnt sure that day so who knew if he would do it { brides nephew} he did all the way down got his fruit snacks and basically laid on steps to cute to not have on video yes both were there from the rear down the aisle then never to be seen again the bride her son and father front view all the way in then rear view of the rest of the wedding lovely you never saw my daughter the reception was based on the grooms mother which is not part of their lives just part of it to be cordial but she is the most important person in the video WHY DO THEY LET THESE COMPANIES CONTINUE WITH ALL THESE COMPLAINTS AND THE ARE RIPPING INNOCENT PEOPLE OF VERY HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF THERE LIVES 1madmom
