As soon as you mentioned '2002 Rav-4', I felt your pain, as well as the pain of whoever was trying to repair the transmission. Toyota/Lexus's U140 transmission is one of the more difficult transmissions to rebuild and have work as well as it did when it was new. They are extremely complicated and this exact vehicle (a 2002 Rav-4) is one of the very few comebacks we have had at our shop. The end result after going back through the transmission, a new valve body, all new solenoids again, was to listen to the Toyota TSB that said the computer was bad and not only needed to be replaced, needed the updated program. Evidently, Toyota saw this problem...hence the TSB. Now, the vehicle works perfectly, but only after countless hours here. It was a good thing my customer was understanding. Perhaps my loaner car and sizeable discount to them on the repair, as well as financing a small part of the price for them made a difference in their happiness. Perhaps this is where your repair went wrong. If the owner of the repair facility in question had offered you a 'good faith' compensatory settlement and perhaps transportation when your problem was being handled maybe this would have been over long ago. It is a shame it came to legal 'blows', but sometimes that is necessary I guess. I hope everything works out. Perhaps it could have been handled differently by your repair facility, who knows. All I have is your side of the story, and have no reason to doubt its validity. All I know is how I would have handled it in the position you said they were in. As far as the comments from the peanut gallery. Patrick, Colonel Mustard called from the Conservatory. He has the Clue you seem to be lacking. $2800 for rebuilding the transmission in this gentlemans 2002 Rav 4 (depending on the actual level of hard parts damage when its torn down) is MORE THAN FAIR, provided of course the unit works properly. I just bought a planetary gear kit for one yesterday that COST ME $700. List on a Toyota Remanufactured unit (which is probably where the 2nd one came from) is about $3500 according to my current Alldata. Add in diagnostic time, fluid, and 10.8 hours labor (which for a good, reputable facility is now $80+ per hour) and you can then see that the second repair of $4000 was not that bad either. This brings us to YOUR situation. $2800 for your transmission seems a bit pricy. After going to the Rock- On web site and seeing all of the things they did to the 4L60E transmission you got for your 2004 GTO...Hell I do alot of those same things in my $1895 overhaul AND remove and install it for that price. Add around $200- $400 for the difference in the price of a stock converter versus the (hmmm I wonder how your computer likes the) 3800 stall you said you got. and perhaps you should have done a bit of research before YOU got ripped off. I will be looking for your post here on this web site next about getting ripped off. Sorry Rock-On. I didn't mean to get something started here. I am sure you produce a fine quality product, and although I have never heard of you I am certain you understand that I am only trying to make a point with Patrick here. People with absolutely no idea what they are talking about should be prohibited from posting here. As a matter of fact, I feel an aptitude test to sign up for this web site would sure cut down the number of posts. Just my two cents worth once again.

You' re right Patrick, I probably paid too much the second time around, but I did pay $4000 for a new transmission for my 2002 Rav4 but at least these other guys did do their work and my car is running smoothly once again and they fixed it in about a week. Unlike AAMCO transmission of 2157 N. Cicero Ave, Chicago, IL where they kept my car for almost six months and charged me $2,891.00 for nothing but having my car sit there in their garage....My advice to other people is never ever pay a mechanic in advance, if they want a collateral your car should be good enough...if they insist take your car elsewhere, once the problem is fixed go with someone to pick your car up and have your friend wait at the shop while you take your car for a test drive to see if everything is fine, if so then and just then pay them off. I guess I learned the hard way..huh!

$4000 for a toyota Rav 4 transmission? Are you serious? I paid $2800 for a new Rock-On transmission with a new 3800 stall convertor for my '04 GTO. Sounds like the second transmission place got you worse than the first guy.

my car is toyota rav4 2002 green, it was taken to AAMCO transmissions at 2157 N. Cicero Ave, chicago, IL. on 05/31/06. They had this free analysis going on back then, when I called back they said that it will cost me $300 to put my transmission back, but if I decided to fix it this amount will count towards the total amount once the car was fixed. Sanford Mintz owner of this particular AAMCO had me paid him in advance $2000 on 07/12/06. I paid the remaining $891.00 on 09/09/06 when I pick up my car, once I did, I noticed that the transmissions had the same problem ( it was not shifting gears). I took back my car back to the shop on 09/11/06. where Mr. Sanford Mintz did not do anything about it. I called the cops on November 22 of 2006 so I can get my car back. I took my car to a different shop where they replaced the transmission for $4000, transmission that AAMCO allegedly replaced. I filed a small claims court and went to court on 02/26/2007 the city of Chicago against AAMCO TRANSMISSIONS of 2157 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago, Il 60639. The city Chicago ordered a restitution to the agrieved 3rd party (ME) for $2,891.00. Money that I have not seen yet as of 11/26/07. Now wouldn't you say this guy is a crook?? I have a family to support... and yes I am very angry at this particular business and hope everyone knows about it. I have proof of everything said here, any questions just e-mail me at gersontech(at)yahoo(d0t)c0m. I hope this is detailed enough for you...and Robbie...unless you're the Mayor of a city or some big shot it takes at least two months to set up a small claims court in the city of chicago, whereby in order for you to follow this process you actually have to show proof of what you claim at the Department of Consumer Services, which is at the Daley Center, room 208, in Chicago, and getting judgement means that you win and can collect... but it is the collecting part that is the tough one.... so just so you really know. Provide for us SPECIFIC DETAILS from your experience, including vehicle information, diganosis and repairs made. From what I have seen so far in your many spam-like rants here concerning this repair facility, all you have to say can be truncated into the following: This guy did me wrong. He didn't repair my car. I got a judge to agree with me and issue a judgement. He will never pay me the judgement, so I am going to try to ruin his life. Please provide us with all relevant details concerning this dealing, or if you choose not to do this please STOP SPAMMING THIS WEB SITE with a personal vendetta. Until we are able, as a result of your facts, to come to the same conclusion you have, your posts here will continue to be simply annoying.....which is far from the result you had hoped to accomplish. As for your getting a 'judgement' against them.......I could go anytime and get a judgement against my next door neighbor for having to many trees hanging over my lawn. His dog pees on my flowers too, I think I will sue him for that too. TELL US ALL ABOUT IT....not just that you were ripped off, but EXACTLY how.
